Trying to fix my mums cistern which isn’t filling enough. It’s almost getting there but not quite. I’ve adjusted the float to its maximum limit but it’s not made much difference other than it works intermittently then stops again.

Any ideas before I buy a new float/fill mechanism? I’ve stripped and cleaned the existing one which is in good condition with no scale build up etc.

Can't help with what you asked, but did it used to flush ok and has gradually deteriorated over a period of time?

If so it could be the Syphon diaphragm is worn out/split/ a bit tattered.

Usually replacing with a piece of thickish polythene gets the flush back to full power.

Apologies if you know this or it is indeed connected to the cistern water level

Thanks for the reply.

It flushes fine when the cistern is full enough, it’s just not filling up enough - needs about another cm of water. The diaphragm seems intact.

I think I’ll just buy a new mechanism as they’re only about £15.

Yeah, that's probably the best way forward.

Put the float on upside down

The float is just an upside down ‘cup’ for want of a better description. No way of fitting it any other way and it’s at the limit of its adjustment.

Thanks for the reply though.
