The battery in my scales has gone flat and it is a bit of a faff to change. Coupled to the fact that I am not exercising and eating loads I have decided the battery must remain out until lock down is over and I can get my life back to some sort of normality.

2.5KG down this week which makes up for last week's stagnation. There weren't any cakes or chips this week though.

FB-ATB - that's really good! I've done similar - went from 88kg at new year to 73.5kg now. What I am finding is that I now use up less calories for the same exercise and have to eat even less. It's like punishment for success!

YGH- cheers, I guess having lost 20% of your body weight you need less calories to move it!

Not sure if I’ve read it on a thread here or on a tv prog, but ISTRC that it’s argued as far as evolution is concerned we’re still wired to be hunter gatherers.
When we cut down to loose weight, after a while the body thinks we’re in famine mode so will adjust its metabolism, hence the plateau we get.

No change. Doing more exercise which is good but offsetting that with lockdown, home schooling junk snacks...

FB-ATB - yeah, the metabolism change is a thing. However, I am using it to my advantage by essentially staying at this same (lower) weight for 3 months so your metabolism accepts it as the new normal. You're more likely to keep your weight loss off that way. Also, 3 months of balanced calorie neutral eating helps with habit forming which is the only way not to end up back where you were after a year or two.
Other people I know who do weightlifting have found that if they cut (diet) and then immediately start going into calorie surplus to do weightlifting that they balloon back up with the calories being stored as fat.

Another thing to realise - your overall mass has dropped by 20%, but some of that mass is fixed - organs/bones etc, so the % change in what you have done is much higher! Your bones are 15% of your overall mass.

@welshfarmer *battery*?
Here we've got a mahoosive metal set of bathroom scales inherited from the FiL around a quarter of a century ago. (I convert into kg after). It is exercise in itself dragging it out.

But I understand about the time not always being right to try to lose weight. I put it on over the past two years what with injuries and one parent dying. Having just started to shed some chub the other one has passed on but the situation is very different so haven't started stress eating yet.

I couldn’t find my scales the other day (mrs had used them and put them away!) so I weighed myself with my old digi scales and was 4lbs lighter than I’d been just a few days before when using the new scales.
I eventually found my new ones and they had me back where I was at 4lbs heavier than the old scales. I now like my old scales best.

So, as well as doing lots of walking and cycling, I have also been doing 200 pressups a day since lockdown started, so about 7 or 8 weeks now?

Starting to pay off:

I realise this picture is a bit ****y, but I just want to get it on record as I doubt I'll ever get like this again.

Finally some southward movement! That said, I would have been disappointed if the had not been some progress given the amount of exercise I have been doing. Still eating a sensible amount - been there and done that with kicking in some training and not eating enough but c. 1.5 kg this week is a good start :).

Just updated my fatness on the chart.

Not many people left now, only 3 more weigh ins until we've been at this 6 months (or 20 years in my case)

Anyhow...

31 lbs of chub have now left my body since 1st Jan, feeling much better and more than half way. (21 lbs to go)

That's bloody good going Tiger, I've stalled at about 7lb lost and TBH am frantically going out riding in the tail end of this week (and have had a word with the OH about putting the many home cooked tasty treats aside for me til Sunday afternoon) to at least not gain stuff back...
Bloody hell 2 stone in this year, you must feel so different!

Yes, but it's a slow process so that you don't really notice, but i know i feel so much better, but just in the same way it's so easy to slowly gain wait and one day go.... " ****! how did I get to 16stone?"

I didnt sign up to chub club but decided when I began working from home and lockdown was announced that I wouldn't have any junk food in the house. Weighed in at 13/5 and am now 11/12 so 1 1/2 stone off. Hoping to get down to 11/0 but anything under 11/7 would be good as I haven't been that low since my late 20s.

I don't have the mindset to do these sorts of things, same as racing/ logging on Stra*a etc. But I did make a conscious effort in 2018 to get flab off, not weight as I've never found weighing-in helpful, but work on how I look and clothes feel. Was going well, then broke my leg 14th December and it's gone belly-up (excuse the pun) since then, I weighed myself this week and sod a dog, never been so heavy. I'm hoping much of the mass is down to muscle mass gain as I've been cross training a lot, running, weights, SkiErg and finally after a long time back riding properly again. So hoping with more self control it might work again, else it's a big investment in new work shirts...

I’m in a frustrating plateau / drop a good bit / plateau phase, last week was one of the good ones so back on track with the -2lb/week track.

Now down 4.5 stone since Jan 6th and I’m now at the same weight I was 10 years ago when I started tracking my weight, which I was quite chuffed about, but had to remind myself that the reason I started tracking was because I’d got fat, so need to lose another 2.5 stone to get to an acceptable level.

My legs aren’t really changing size, just changing from chub to muscle with all the riding!

Down another 1.2KG this week, so that's 20.8KG since 12th Feb. I'm about 2/3 of the way to my completely arbitrary weight target that will see me under 25BMI.

I can now run a 5K in under 30 minutes (26:30 best time) whereas before I couldn't run for 5 minutes. I'm now waiting ofr the gyms to re-open so I can start strength training again after a 4 year break.

I've spent a bloody fortune on clothes and after getting some new work shorts that were far too big I'm probably going to have to return all the trousers for a smaller size!

Doomanic 👏👏👏

I'm still going North but feeling slightly healthier due to not WFH every day.

You guys have done some incredible, life changing weight losses. You should be so proud! Respect.

Thanks guys. It’s been hard work, but totally worth it. I didn’t really think I looked much different until I saw myself in profile in the wife’s full length dress mirror. I used to hate that mirror and avoid it where possible, now, not so much.

After small losses for the last 3-4 weeks, I've dropped 1.1kg since last week, but not changed much in eating/exercise to cause the drop. Can't fathom this out. I did file the hard skin off my heels- maybe that was the reason!

Not a good week for me! No loss

Hadn’t thought about removing skin though so I’ll unearth the Angle grinder and set too on my crusty feet 👍😀

Finally sneaked under 85kg this morning from 90kg at new year.

Slow going but I've not been super dedicated, just making little changes here and there. Diet is healthier but I've not been watching calories. Also building up the exercise gently, doing 7ish hours a week on bike but mostly low intensity, and strength work is mostly only body weight, twice a week.

What I have noticed is that my morning weight (all else being equal) is either 86.5kg or 84.9kg, and the common factor seems to be how much whisky I had the night before! I guess whisky gives you the 'benefit' of alchohol related dehydration without the 'drawback' of pints and pints of beer with it. Not a technique I plan to employ very often right enough...

5kg in 6 months, not much by the standards set above, but I'm on track for 80kg by next year before I hit the Pyrenees!

Another decent week for me to now 0.2lbs below my chub club target for the quarter so pleased with that.

@FB-ATB I can't work out it out either, although I'm working on the theory that it seems to take my body about 5 days to react to a significant calorie defect i.e. did loads over the weekend, >4500 cal deficit combined over the two days, weight only dropped a bit a week or so later. Other days this week I've run less of a deficit, probably -700cals/day on average.

Another week, another 1KG down. My weight loss is starting to slow so I’m looking to try something a little different and cut out all artificial sweeteners for a couple of weeks. After I’ve eaten the Keto Lemon Drizzle cake and Keto Chocolate Brownies I’ve baked this week of course...

Stabilising around 95kg atm, which is 6 lost since start of year. That's modest compared to some, but actually feels quite significant, as I've been 101/102 forever. Longer term if I could hit 90 that would be the promised land, but small steps.

tbh it's all been driven by the (lack of) beer - went teetotal 3 months back. Diet still distinctly average. OTOH if it wasn't for covid I reckon I'd be a lot further along, eat a lot more at home int he day then I used to do at work.

wd to everyone sticking with it - some really impressive weight loss.

It feels like I need to consider my alcohol intake next, an average week might be:

1 bottle red
2 440ml cans strong craft IPA
1 or 2 330ml cans alcohol free beer
1 or 2 whiskies (usually a generous double, cheap stuff over ice at the moment)

Looking at it written down, it still looks 'generous', and almost certainly over the 14 units that's recommended. Also, with craft IPA inevitably comes crisps!

Good compromise might be 1 bottle red, couple cans fancy alcohol free, and try my hardest to substitute crisps for pistachios or something...

I'd say that looks like next to nowt, by my own previous standards, @13thfloormonk, but one's alcohol intake is a personal matter. 3 pints might be a preliminary stomach liner for one, and a decent session for another. I guess the calories don't change either way.

The AF beer is v helpful IME - I like brewdog stuff the best but it will likely get better still, given how undrinkable it all was just a few years back.

3 pints and I’m on the floor, I’m that much of a lightweight! That’s why I’m envious of those that can drink a lot- an easy way to cut the chub, cutting the beer!

Down .6kg for me this week so happy with that. I restarted my walking in earnest last week and this is paying dividends already. It's strange that even though I was previously clocking up 120k on a bike my weight remained flat. Since resuming walking of about 50k a week the weight is dropping ~.5kg a week. I try to limit calorie intake to ~1800 per day so running a decent deficit. Celebrating tonight with spaghetti bolognese and lashings of red wine, well 2 glasses anyway. Have a good weekend folks.

Well done guys, I kept it static this week. Might start weights up again. Physio treatment is going again now (with us both wrapped up like parcels) so hopefully might be starting running again soon too.
Actually started drinking a little (~100ml wine 2-3 times a week) as at my age a small +ve intake of alcohol seems to be correlated with better life expectancy. We do buy the weeny 200ml-ish bottles usually to limit temptation 😉

Rob - I know we can't always keep Chub Club renewing....but could we this time! With Lockdown a lot of us have gone up, or remained static, it's been a massive challenge with Covid. Could we start a new one "post lock down Chub Club" from 21st June to say end of September ? I would have smashed it if it weren't for Covid...Honestly 🙂

Current Chub club (Q2) is due to end 30th June

I’d be up for Q3

Also happy to pick up the mantle and do some Spreadsheeting and emails 👍😀

I have found this Q2 really difficult. Only just held onto same weight in. A Q3 would be welcome by me and help my well being.

I too have found Q2 to be difficult going but starting to find my groove again. If someone could continue this it would be great and could reward them with cake but that makes us chunky munkies...

I could offer up a slice or two of Keto Brownies if that helps to keep it going.

My non-dieting friend polished off the last of the Keto Lemon Drizzle post ride today. I’m surprised he still has his fingers! 😂

I like your thinking- feed someone cake so there’ll be at leat one person worse than you. Bit like not having to be fast enough to out run a lion, just faster than someone else!

Q3 Chub Club would be great. Summers here and we're allowed out again, so only ourselves to blame if we miss the target come end of September.

I missed joining chub club this year, any chance for there to be a Q3 membership? Although I have lost weight since lockdown started I would like to keep it off or even better shrink the belly.
