When I try to set this up (have tried Android ipad and laptop) my home wifi network is not visible

Have tried checking that 2.4GHz wireless is running (it is). It's a BT Homehub 4

Channels are set to automatic - would picking a channel make any difference?

Anything else to try?

can help Im afraid. Im running homehub 4, but open security. No problems setting up. I think I let the HH set its own channel and I modify channels on my repeaters instead.

Thanks. I'm also running open security. On all 3 devices as soon as I run the setup app it connects to the Chromecast no problem but then when I'm asked to choose a wi-fi network the list is empty - in fact I should be able to see a couple more as well as my own but I don't.

Helpful reply follows: I had to change a setting on my router, unfortunately I can't for the life of me remember what it was...

Hehehe.

I've got the same problem as James. I've been entering the SSIP manually, which has yet to achieve anything.

This is a lot of hassle to watch YouTube videos on a small telly. 🙂

There's a fairly easy way for you to find out, but "no" is likely to be the answer.

Do you have the USB lead plugged in to the chromecase also? Could be a power issue.

Could just be a duff chromecast. Make sure if you are picking channels its a free one in the area.

Thanks all - somouk has it - I assumed I could power the chromecast from the TV USB port but it seems this is not enough - now plugged into mains and we seem to getting somewhere (well at least it's found the wifi now)

It aint necessarily so. not a Chromecast, but, I came across an issue with my Lumix TZ60 yesterday where it would not find my wireless network. My wifi was set to automatically select a channel and had picked channel 13. Manually setting the wifi to another channel resolved the issue.

A quick search brought this up:
