Since my daughter was born 11 years ago we've always spent our holidays in the UK. This year we've been looking to go abroad (she's never been on a plane), but ruddy hell it's expensive!!!

Is there anyway to get 2 adults and a child abroad for less than a grand!? 1.5 to 2k seems to be about the ball-park. Don't mind if its Feb or Oct half term.

When my wife and I last went abroad to Greece it wasn't in the Euro and was dirt cheap!

Ta!

The only way we've managed to do cheap during the school holidays is to book a budget airline in advance and sort our hotel ourselves. We've recently done Sardinia (great food and hardly any Brits) and Turkey (lovely if you can steer clear of the touristy bits).

Check out your local airport's website for their airlines and destinations.

Yep, i think independent is the way to go.

Portugal's quite a good bet. Flights for the October half term are about £120 each flying from either Manchester or Gatwick. I always like to hire villa's rather than hotels as you get a private pool, your own space to lounge around and I prefer to explore and eat in different places rather than at a hotel and also you can save money by cooking you're own food if you fancy it. A quick scan suggests you could get a decent 2 bedroom villa in a nice village / town on the Algarve for £400 for the week. Look on Owners direct or homeaway.

Depending on if you wanted to hire a car you could probably do the whole week for under a grand. The trick is definately to book the flights early!

Pretty much anywhere in the euro zone is going to be a bit pricy (Greece is these days). I'd go for southern Turkey which is pretty warm even spring / autumn. The £ goes a good way in Turkey and look now for low cost flights.

+1 for Portugal. We've been lookng at 1/2 bedroom villas in the Algarve through Owners Direct, seem to be quite a few at the £300/week mark with flights by Norwegian from Gatwick starting at around £29 each way in March (more expensive half erm week though 😕

Chaz

Sharm is pretty reasonable. Plus it's hot outside of the summer.
