Decided to ditch run flats tyres for standards tyres on my BMW e91.
What do you guys use for a back up?
Compressor and sealant option, Space saver wheel which will use up boot space or just call the AA?
Dont see why you couldn't use an anchovy and a compressor....
Ive got 5 wheels so cant help
I ditched run flats and added a full size spare car had a empty spare wheel well. No idea what your bm has in the way of a wheel well though.

That's a bit excessive no?

There is not such thing as overkill.
Going to do the same thing, plan to buy a space saver spare.
I removed them from my Z4, my Mini and my E91. I bought one of the ///M repair kits from eBay.
Working fine when I got a puncture. Wouldn't have helped with my wife's blowout, but then, that's what I pay my recovery premium for.
I'm currently tidying out my garage and have a BMW 17" space saver wheel in a DHB wheel bag and BMW scissor jack that I might sell if anyone is interested. I bought it for my previous car.
As far as I know, you don't get wheel wells in BMW's with run flats, and it's surprising how much space a 'space saver' takes up if you've got to keep it in your boot. Well, it did in a 1 series anyhow.
While there's under floor boot space in my Civic for a spare, I need the space for all my bike spares and tools 😀 . I'm reliant on the sealant kit that came with the car, though to be honest I really have no clue about it.
Once sealant is used, I'm assuming if the puncture is repairable you can either leave the stuff in or remove the bulk of it? Or even just run on with the sealant plugging the hole like with tubeless MTB tyres?
In fact, what's to stop using some sealant much like we do with bikes from the start and let it plug holes as it goes?
Have to say though, I've never had a car tyre puncture in my life, or not one that flattens the tyre. Nearest is getting nails in the tyre but they've always held. Of course I'll get one tomorrow now 😀
Unfortunately I don't have a spare wheel well in the boot so it would take up boot space. I have been trying to find the official BMW mobility kit that they put into Z's and Mini's. My wheels are 18" so I think this may be the only option. I see slime so a compressor and sealant kit.
Holts tyre sealant and a car compressor is what the wife carries in her e82 (no wheel well). Used it 2 days after putting on the brand new winter tyres
PaddyMcG are you interested in selling that space saver and jack?

When your punctured wheel is in your boot, how much space will you be saving? 💡
The run flats were noisy and made the ride harsh on bad road surfaces.

Unfortunately, this isn't the case.
The latex type sealant supplied renders the tyre unrepairable, kwikfit etc won't even try as they say it damages the interior surface of the tyre. So if you get a small hole in the centre of the tread that would otherwise be perfectly repairable don't stick the goo in, you'll write off the tyre. Call the AA instead.
"Slime" is better as it is waterbased and can be washed out of the tyre allowing it to be repaired, but none of the sealants are much good, they only seal pretty small holes.
Plug kits will repair larger holes than sealants, but need a bit of practice to get them to work.
Nothing beats a spare though, no sealant or plug kit will help if you damage the sidewall clipping a kerb or hitting a pothole.
Are you absolutely sure that there isn't room for a space saver under the boot floor?
Yeah I spoke to my independent about it when it was in getting serviced a few months ago. Although the floor of the boot lift up to reveal more compartments and storage in a deeper well. He says it isn't large enough to take a space saver. His recommendation was the BMW mobility kit you get with a Mini. I noticed the slime kit on Amazon was much cheaper and wondered what other people do.
The 2 reasons I'm changing are ride quality and cost of replacement. My rears tyres are a different profile from the front and the cheapest run flat I can find for the rears is around £150-£160. One of the back tyres punctured on Friday and the other is nearly worn and with the MOT early next year for the price of two run flats for the rears I am just about the same money (£349) to change all tyres to standards.
I've got a BMW 130i on run flats. Awful tyres. Will be getting shut of them as soon as they're dead
If anyone wants some - I used to be the southern rep for Ultraseal.
Have individual bottles left and if anyone is close enough - the kit to fill direct from the 50lt bidons.
I won't work on sidewall damage but it'll either seal without you ever knowing or get you home on stuff up to 3-5mm.
Stops a lot of deflation issues too and blowouts are controlled.
Water soluble so just rinse and the tyre can be repaired with a plug later on.
To be honest, I find the run flats on my newer car a lot more forgiving than the RFs on my previous car. They were terrible, and I made the change to non RFs. Think there's a new generation of Run Flats available now that don't seem to knock your fillings out or tramline as much on the motorway. When I put the non RFs on my last car, I was told to go for extra load to compensate for the softer sidewalls, to prevent wallowing. Supposedly the car is set up for the stiffer RFs.
Hopefully sent you an email fingers.
