Anyone have any experience in using cbd oil for arthritis or inflammation?
My wife has a “high inflammatory state” and is constantly tweaking knees, ankles elbows etc despite a pretty gentle lifestyle.
It’s starting to affect her excercising even in a low impact way.
Officially it’s not arthritis ( at the moment) but it is affecting her daily life.
Wondering if cbd could help - There’s lots of wild claims about it as a panacea for everything. Wondering if anyone has direct experience?
I use it to control the pain in my ankle which was badly broken a few years ago, there’s metal in there and I have slightly restricted movement.
It often aches.
One cbd capsule a day stops about 95% of the niggles.
There’s no side effects whatsoever, but it takes 2-3 days before you notice the full effects.
@martymac - which brand of tablets do you take? There are so many providers it’s difficult to work out which actually work
I would also be interested in this, as (for my age of 43) I am really struggling with various aches and pains, sore knees ect...
Hadn't thought of this for my bust ankle. Do they do bulk deliveries? Does it work for bust ribs?

These are the ones i use.
They don’t give instant relief like cocodamol does, but they definitely do reduce the longer term aches.
Also, i definitely feel more chilled out, which was the original reason i started using them, the pain relief was actually a side effect for me.

Doesn't contain THC at psychoactive levels, though, so I wonder why that is?
As I understand it, CBD does have anti-anxiety properties. This is why noughties superskunk crackweed is so bloody nasty and psychosis inducing. Because the growers have bred out all the CBD and concentrated on just getting the THC levels up. Whereas oldschool hash and marijuana had normal levels of CBD which kind of counteracted the less desirable properties of the THC, thus - best of both worlds.
I Am Not A Stoner though, I'm sure one should be waking up soon-ish to explain properly 🙂
I have RA and when I have a flare up of activity my joints all hurt and I get really bad insomnia - I am half unable to sleep deeply, then half the pain at night is bad enough to stop me sleeping.
I have reached a stage this winter after another night of sub 5 hours of sleep, in the middle of another week unable to exercise that I am prepared to try anything while I wait for my MTX levels to get back to where they need to be after a covid interruption. I will grab some of this cbd stuff and report back for science
Check out the members’ perks area, I think there’s a discount for The Tonic, who have quite a lot of information on their website about different options.

Funnily enough - the best measure for efficacy is advertising. There are far stricter rules for making health claims in an advert than there are for any other media source. Bloggers and influencers, 'nutritionists' 'experts' and pundits...even journalists and broadcasters have a far lower burden of proof for anything they state than advertisers
So advertisers can for instance say that their product is 'an excellent source of antioxidants' but shy away from actually making any claim about what antioxidants do - they just hope you remember the words 'antioxidant' and 'excellent' - its easy to then make 'wild claims' in the guise of news about why antioxidants are good for you in a multitude of ways without actually having to reference any proof - and if you;re clever you can get the advert and the 'news' on the same page.
So ... they advertise CBD oil on the telly at the moment - got a nice celeb to front the ads. Watch one - make a list of the actual specific claims the manufacturer makes for their oil and its efficacy. You won't be writing a long list.
It's great for pain relief, crack on

there are plenty of factors other than chemistry that influence how you feel about things.
It definitely works for me for pain and inflammation at menstruation. In the past was having to take codeine some months and always ibuprofen which messed up my stomach so gave cbd a go. Not taken anything else since in the last year. I buy a 1000mg high spectrum oil you drop under the tongue from the drug.store. Not cheap but there are some questionable strength products out there for sale. Have also purchased various cbd weeds online and in cbd shops in Europe which look and smell very much like cannabis but are hemp with less than 0.2 percent thc. Don't really like smoking so i just eat it. Also seems to help with a great night's sleep when i take before bed.
The evidence base is poor but it is there and unlikely to be harmful. worth a try
Works wonders with my dog he loves the taste too.
The main thing is a decent recomendation. I've tried the H&B one, but never took it long enough - broke my spine 6 years ago). Some work better than others.
I had a shoulder injury two years ago.
I was a bit reluctant to use ibuprofen*
CBD seemed to tick all the right boxes.
I was about to buy some online from a major high st pharmacist chain.
I emailed them to enquire whether the gelatine used in the capsules was vegan.
They couldn’t confirm that, as the cbd wasn’t yet classed as a ‘proper’ medicine, and so, didn’t have any rigorous tests for purity, etc.
Any ideas of provenance went right out the window.
The cbd industry might have got their act together by now.
* a couple of months later, I broke my leg. Not taking Ibuprofen was no longer an option.

All drugs to some extent are psychoactive, I've sat through god knows how many presentations from clinical trials and I've not seen one yet where the placebo arm didn't report improvements. Sometimes just doing something positive to deal with a condition will improve it. I'd be concerned about checking the safety data a but for the efficacy I'd say you'll only know if you try it.
