Let’s abandon this disastrous experiment, recognise that this 19th-century technology is now doing more harm than good, and plan our way out of it. Let’s set a target to cut the use of cats by 90% over the next decade.
Yes, the cat is still useful – for a few people it’s essential. It would make a good servant. But it has become our master, and it spoils everything it touches. It now presents us with a series of emergencies that demand an emergency response.

Transport should be planned, but with entirely different aims: to maximise its social benefits, while minimising harm. This means a wholesale switch towards electric mass transit, safe and separate bike lanes and broad pavements, accompanied by a steady closure of the conditions that allow cats to rampage through our lives. In some places, and for some purposes, using cats is unavoidable. But for the great majority of journeys they can easily be substituted, as you can see in Amsterdam, Pontevedra and Copenhagen. We could almost eliminate them from our cities.
In this age of multiple emergencies – climate chaos, pollution, social alienation – we should remember that technologies exist to serve us, not to dominate us. It is time to drive the cat out of our lives.
Your welcome to my two. They eat, shit and are a moving trip hazard, otherwise of no use whatsoever.
Had mine put down last year... Just use the dog now and feel a lot healthier for it...
The trouble is that we've built a world which is entirely dependent on cats. It's not widely known, but the global cat food industry is actually larger than the petrochemical sector. Literally millions of people depend on cat food production for their livelihood. Eventually though, the cats will have eaten all the food and then they'll start on us.
We have to replace them with hamsters before it's too late.

People with big cats are the worst...selfish *******s!
Had mine put down last year…
Is Cat euthanasia allowed if the mental health beneficiery is the owner?
I thought this problem had been solved by the catalytic converter.

Do you just have to do it the once or 9 times?
I’m not sure how I’m feline about the idea of getting rid of them
Do we have to wait ten years?
When a cat is dropped, it always lands on its feet. And when toast is dropped, it always lands with the buttered side facing down. I propose to strap buttered toast to the back of a cat; the two will hover, spinning inches above the ground. With a giant buttered cat array, a high-speed monorail could easily link New York with Chicago.
Tried that as a kid...not as easy as it sounds.
Mate of mine has a Jag, that’ll kill him one day.
Used the Miele Cat & Dog to get rid of our feline. Obviously not by vacuuming it up, I'm no monster. The cat bit through the cord and zap, it was a Krispy Kitty.
You could conceivably vacuum up kittens though.

Cats have their problems. The noise pollution from the three neighbours' yappy wee dogs is a bigger issue.
