Have just been put into slavery by a 11 month old tom cat.He has a fantastic friendly playfull temperament, but is intact in the tackle dept.Has anyone got a tom who hasn't been done?I am considering a trip to vets when he has fully settled in,but just want to hear from anyone with experience of living with a,full fat Tom cat

Why does he need spuds? responsible owner = no spuds (Don't even thing about your own)

Would definitely book him in. My parents weren't planning to get their tom done, but it didn't take very long before they changed their minds. Partly the fighting, partly the spraying...

Also reduces the number of unwanted kittens - probably just as effectively as getting the females spayed.

Get him done ASAP. You'll be thankful of it

(It really is an easy/quick process)

If he goes outside, get him done. Some vets do it for free as they're a ecological menace.

And my parents' cat was even soppier and more playful afterwards, if that's worrying you...

If I could add to the chorus - full toms are unfortunately nasty things, they get very big and strong and will terrorise the neighborhood cats. Think you can keep him inside ? He will yowl his face off eventually. And pee everywhere. And fight you.

When I collected my two kittens from their mother, their father (local ruler of the neighborhood) smelt the action and two potential new victims and tried to attack the cage they were in. Took some nasty chunks out of me doing it. No fear at all !

Get him done. It'll also stop him marking his territory. Which includes the inside of the house. And he won't wander off for days on end in spring when some neighbour's cat is in heat.

Get him done and as early as the vet recommends, they can 'learn' the behaviour, so if you leave it too late they can still spray etc even after the chop.

We have a house rabbit that is now an ex house rabbit due to this...he sprays everything that moves and with Spring on the way I got my boots liberally covered yesterday! He's been checked and the rehoming place even spent a small fortune on a hormone blood test sent to America to check the levels were correct!

🙂

No - a proper vet. I turned up to get the cat at the appointed time, and she told me she'd only just finished, and what large nads Monty used to have. And then showed me them 😯

Poor sod, but I couldn't resist taking a photo 😀

In case you need any more arguments for it... One day a bigger, younger, fitter tomcat will turn up in the neighborhood and will try to kill him. Happened to my dad's old tom, it was horrible.
