I've just bought a 3W LED worklamp and fitted it to the back of my van to give me some light when sorting out the bike, cooking etc. and for some support stuff at the Puffer. I was wondering if it was possible to estimate just how much time I could use the light before being unable to start the van.

It's a Renault Trafic which comes (AFAIK) with a 63Ah battery. The lamp is 3W, drawing 0.9A at 12V.

I understand that it's not an exact science, but are we talking minutes or hours??

Days (about 70 hours, 63/0.9 to run the battery completely flat using the light)

๐Ÿ™‚

Can I assume that even 3/4 power would turn over the engine and therefore 12 hrs use isn't out of the question?

Hmmm - now to factor in the Mobi Wash ๐Ÿ™‚

It wouldn't cost you too much to put a leisure battery in there as well - much like campers do. Then you could have loads of power to do what you wanted.

The usable power in a lead acid is about 50% of its capacity, so for a 63Ahr battery work on using 30 amps before its flat. So you should be good for 12hrs, with occasional use of the bike wash.

One thing to remember, is the courtesy lights. If you don't need them, turn them off. Don't leave the doors open all day unless you turn them off. The radio is quite easy on the juice, but bung in a CD and it'll take a lot more power.
