My eldest lad is gay, gayer than Jack McGay from Gaysville, & what I can't understand is why he thinks men in drag (ie looking like women) look amazing but he doesn't think an actual stunning woman does.

Before anyone says, 'why don't you ask him', It's because..

A) I've just thought of it.

B) I'm hardly gonna phone/text/message him just to ask.

C) Maybe one of you lot has an explanation which would save me the bother.

D) I might ask him when I see him next. (which will probably be Xmas)

🙂

Off the top of my head,

Does he merely think they "look amazing" or does he think they look sexually attractive?  Big difference.  I see cosplayers at cons who I think look amazing, but I wouldn't want to hump Judge Dredd.

I'd think it would be something like the equivalent of me thinking that there are some trans women who I'm sure look amazing, and sexually attractive, but as a straight man I'm going to be put off by their nob.

(I hope that my limited grasp of terminology and possibly poor phraseology doesn't lead me to offend anyone, that is the last thing I would ever want to do)

Men in drag are men, they mostly look like men, your son likes men.

If Rachel Riley dressed up as a man, she'd still be Rachel Riley.

Probably for the same reason that, despite loving a facefull of boobs, I'm not too excited about a close-up of a nipple, it's all about context.

EGF - do you find men in drag attractive even though you (presumably) normally prefer women?

Again, drag Queens still look like guys. Personally I'd phone him right now to ask but that's just me.

Cougar - bet if it was Jessica Nigri you would change your tune.

Does it matter?

If you find someone beautiful/sexually attractive then you find them beautiful/sexually attractive. Who really needs to give a shit whether they're man/woman/drag/trans/whatever?

I'd say the Op explained pretty well why. Let's not make this something it isn't.

She's a boy in drag?  Wut?

Oh, the cosplay thing?  I was referring to male cosplayers.

I didn't know who that was, so I googled her and it appears that she's famous for cosplaying as a pair of breasts?

He likes the person. Doesn’t matter what they are wearing or probably even the sex; just the person.

Let him live the life he wants and support him.

I would imagine it’s partly to do with self expression unencumbered by society’s mores, it’s an act and charade but up on the stage they are free to express themselves in whatever way they want, it’s also an identity that is unlikely to be hijacked by heterosexual men.

its also probably far more complex than that.

Thanks for the advice. He's been living his life to the full for 17 years & I've supported him all the time. ( although I do call him a big gay puff, to which he usually says 'shut up Stumpy' or another insult) 🙂

Does it matter?

Doesn't 'matter' in the slightest, I was just wondering why he likes the look of a bloke who looks like a beautiful woman ( & sometimes hard to tell apart) but not an actual beautiful woman.

I'll ask him.
