Just had some carpets fitted up stairs in bedrooms on top of t&g chipboard. Had heating re plumbed so a few cuts in the boards. Fitter didn’t tape underlay joins, just stapled underlay. Should I take up carpet (get a carpet fitter to) and tape or leave it?

Underlay is dual rubber/fabric stuff and carpet is a wool mix twist type.

No paper underneath neither..

Is there a problem with the carpet or underlay?

It's not clear what problem you're trying to solve... Or are you just asking what best practice should have been?

Life is too short, leave it unless there are gaps in underlay.

That is standard practice. Cloud 9 underlay stapled down and carpet fitted. No fannying around with tape.

Did you hear the one about the Spanish carpet fitter?

Looks ok now but Given the carpet was a few quid as was the underlay I was hoping for it to last a few years.

So wondering what problems if any this might mean.

I’m thinking any problems won’t necessarily show straight away, like the painter who doesn’t bother to prep, looks ok for a while but then goes bad. Or like the block pave driveway my neighbour had done by the fitter who had a space the next week, looked fine then six months later it looked more like a pump track for micro scooters.

Should have used Cloud9.

It helps pay my wage!

Never heard of underlay being taped as it’s stapled. Carpet joins are taped because it isn’t.
