Morning all
Has anyone brought an aftermarket tint set cut specifically for there model car from eBay? If so was it any good and easy to fit?

I tried to fit window tints once. (it was a while ago on a mk 3 escort...)
The finished article looked utter gash, bubbles and creases everywhere.
I got my van done by a company, cost me around 150 quid for the rear and side door windows.
Looked 100 times better.

Thought about it, but could only find lots of people with mrlugz's experience. I'm not one to shy away from a DIY challenge, but consensus on this one really seems to be to just a pay a pro.
I had the bimmer done recently, no way i was doing it myself. The pro's will take anywhere upto 5 hours to do a full car, just consider that. A full car (including drivers side heat shielding) will cost you no more than £280.
I did the back glass on my Landrover hard top. 3 bits of flat glass.
Took ages and looked awful.
Get it done by a pro.
You do know, that you can only put tinting in the rear side and back windows. Anything further forward than the rear door pillar is not permitted.
You tend to find that on most modern cars there is a degree of tinting in the front windows which is permitted.

How to do it, looks easy enough to me.
The 70 - 75% rule means that basically it is clear glass.
If you try and put tinting on the front side windows or even the screen, the war will certainly fail its MOT.
The Police and VoSA have the power to issue an Immediate Rectification notice. Which basically means you are not able to drive the vehicle on a road until the tinting is removed.
Some drivers try it on, and do ride around with tinted fronts, but eventually, all have to remove it.

tinting the front windows helps identify the complete cocks out there.
its not all bad
Bought a set of http://www.uvcarshades.co.uk/index.php for the summer road-trip through France. Worked a treat keeping the car cool and kids happy with glare-free TV. Taken them out now its gloomier.
My new-to-me car has deeply tinted rear windows (factory fitted). Thought it looked great when I bought it but it's a real, real pain when you are trying to reverse when it's dark and raining - you can see sod-all! Don't think I'd buy another car with them.
Tinted windows are not part of the MOT test.
I would also argue that wind deflectors are far worse for A pillar vision, had a couple of moments with mine until I got used to looking around them.
It's not part of the MoT but I do usually advise that in my opinion the windows are excessively tinted for driver and passenger windows. I do agree it should be, but the cost of testing equipment when they proposed putting it in the test last time meant it didn't become a testable item.
