Hi all,

We moved house the Friday the lockdown started. s\ which was not stressful at all. /s.

The plan was to get the card done soon after we moved in. The bigger car is fine, it just needs the brake pads done, which can wait for a bit.

The wee car needs a bit of a going over and spruce up ready to hand back when it's finance is finished in a month or two.

Question is, where and how to do that when the dealer and the local garage are closed. Are any of the major chains still running?

Cheers

R

Garages are classified as an essential service. But it's up to them wether they open up or not. It'll be a case of phoning around to see who is actually open.

Kwik Fit and ATS are open round me, normally would avoid them both but it's not normal times. I need to get the Aircon serviced and the brake fluid is due too so they may get a bit of work off me if the lockdown goes on past the end of the month.

Halfords service centres are definitely open.

just phone around - plenty should be open. If you’re not in a hurry let them know that so they can prioritise key workers.

It's down to individual garages, but they can open. Ours was booked in for a service and MOT the week after lockdown - they offered to open specially to MOT it but won't service it, so we are waiting till things return to something like normal.

the wife has a Fiat on PCP which is supposed to be serviced annually as part of keeping it maintained. We can't find a main dealer to do it so called Fiat finance who've just said to get it done once the lockdown is over.

It's barely moved off the drive for a month anyway.

If lockdown goes on for another 5k Miles I’ll be doing mine myself, assuming I can buy the bits.

Like others have said there are a few garages still open. Some of the ones around us I’ve seen are doing collection/drop off as they don’t want people coming to them.

Surrey - car needed a new cambelt last week. 1st garage, desperate for work offered to do it the next day. Cool, booked in. Thought I'd get some other quotes, so popped into a few. 1st garage really grumpy, wouldn't even talk to me. 2nd, sure will call back. Never did. Third, sorry we are closed. Gave up after that, and let the original garage do it. No main dealers open at all. You may well find your locals are kicking their heels or look open, but just do not want to do any work. I'd not leave it if it needs doing now - when the UK opens, there will be months of pent up demand.

I’ve got hold of a good mobile mechanic to look at my Audi (see other thread for the issue). Used him before and he does great work. National Tyres are open as well and the one local to us is brilliant. No qualms in recommending them

The Audi specialist I was going to use is open for key workers only. Guess I could have blagged it was my wife’s car but felt that was cheating a bit...

I have to get mine serviced at the VW dealership as a part of the warranty and they have all been shut for a couple of weeks.

My son had his sirocco serviced at the local Halfords garage during the week.
