Anyone used a seatbelt extender or have an alternative solution that has worked for them?

It would easily fix the issue of not being able to get to the seatbelt buckle when the split rear seats are down and the child seat is in place.

This is a genuine Nissan part to fit the car but only seems available from America.

I suspect that a) such a thing would be vehicle-specific, I don't think there's a seatbelt buckle standard, and b) would have to meet various EU / UK safety standards meaning that it's probably not worth the hassle for third parties to manufacture unless it's from some dodgy Far Eastern sweatshop and I don't need to tell you how great an idea that wouldn't be.

I'd be pursuing the part you linked, have you got any friends in the US?

not a problem in most cars I've used - does it just get trapped or is it inaccessable?

TBH, i have a vague recollection of them being illegal under one or more EU laws and only ever sold through dodgy resellers. Or only available if you have a medical reason for having one. Probably why Nissan doesn't import them, or maybe they do, but don't list them.

I thought seatbelts were a fairly generic thing. If you do need the one from the states though I've used https://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/ before for a weird Nissan part I couldn't get in Europe for my Leaf, they ship internationally and the service took import duties etc upfront. Came in a week or so.

No, importing doesn't seem cripplingly expensive, especially for a safety item but wondered if others had solved a similar issue.

Child seat butts up against the dropped seats so impossible to get between them to click in. Had to forgo the ISO mounts so we could pull child seat out of the way, click in, push back then adjust, jiggle, shove everything back into place & I still wasn't totally happy as the child seat was still at an angle.

Can you not just put the child seat in place before you put the split seats down?

40/60 seat ? You'll probably need to use the 60% portion for the child seat, and the other side able to fold, that's pretty common

Can you get a middle seat belt from a scrapper (but not crashed 🙂 ) and ask someone like Sabelt or Corbeau to sort the webbing?

Your problem or similar (e.g. 3 child seats installed making the buckle difficult to access) is asked often on various child seat safety groups on Facebook. The answer is always do not use one. These groups are run by people trained in child seat installation. It's a complete unknown as to what implications you're having on your child's safety. The child seat was not tested or designed to be used with an extender. Then there's the issue of the quality of the part itself. Perhaps the Nissan one is safe if used by an adult, but that doesn't translate to being safe to use with a car seat. There's probably a good reason why they aren't sold by Nissan here too (perhaps we have more stringent regs).

Also why are you folding the rear seats down with a child in the seat? Or is the seat unoccupied? I'm just thinking about unsecured loads here. i.e. stuff flying around inside the car and injuring occupants if there's a crash or heavy braking/swerving

Given the op's username I was assuming it was needed to accommodate their impressive physique

I wanted something like this in a previous car because the kids were always arguing about plugging seat belts in (three kids in car seats)

Never resolved it with that car, got a van!

I looked into this about a year ago. What I found out was that the manufacturer of our kids seats said they weren't to be used with the seat. So that was that. Britax in case you're wondering. They said it was a definite no no.
