I'm flying into JFK airport next month and need a car for a week. I will be driving a lot in this week so probably need unlimited miles. Does anyone have any suggestions on car hire? I know the usual suspects but does anyone have any other insider suggestions? I can get to the city without a car so the rental company does not have to be at the airport?
Have used rental cars.com a number of times get deals to rent cars from central Manhattan locations. Lots of options and pretty cheap. Used them in Italy recently too with no complaints.
^^ and with the above use a decent company not the low rent idiots through rentalcars as they are just a broker.
For big city stuff if you want less stress with parking and traffic pick one you can get out to on public transport
Agree with Mike. I only use the big companies via RC.com.
kayak, rentalcars.com expedia and then follow Mike's advice.
Alternatively, you could try Alamo. Get yourself an alamo.com (not a .co.uk) insiders account and see what they offer. I've had some amazing deals direct through them.
Be aware that Rental cars.com sell you their own insurance. The rental car companies will still hard sell you to buy their insurance, often just adding it without telling you
