OK so I have a 2003 Audi A4 Tdi estate rhs dipped head lamp stopped working yesterday, usual warning on dashboard, but when I changed the bulb still not working. Both bulbs tested ok with old 12v bike battery, just one headlamp not working, all other lights are good, including main beam, fuses look ok. What else can I look at or check? I do have a local indie VAG so they will get to see it, just wondering if someone has syeen this before. Thanks.
fuses look ok.
Have you checked the fuse with a tester/ swapped the fuse with another?
Get yourself a voltage tester and check at headlight. Then check the voltage at the fuse box. It may be the switch or relay not sending power to the headlamp
Broken wire. Check the socket with a volt meter.
Check for any corrosion on contacts; if there is, a light rub with emery paper to remove the visible corrosion should give you a short term fix.
When it comes to car electrics every problem seems to have innumerable possible causes.
Good luck!
Thanks, a couple of things, the fuse list seems to indicate 20-21 for dipped headlamps but the fuse block (rhs of steering wheel) does not have 20-21, I have looked at all other fuses, is there a fuse/control somewhere else.
What reading am I looking for at the lamp socket, I guess it is near 12v? All wires near lamp look fine, I think it maybe some other control device or broken wire;)
Often another fuse box under the hood. (in general, I don't know about Audi specifically)
