I know I asked this before but I can't for the life of me find the thread.
If I buy brake pads from a reasonable looking website, am I likely to end up with some grey copy that fails and kills me and my family?

Somewhere like Euro Car Parts is likely to have decent brake pads that will work.
Have you tried euro car parts? They can be good on price, but cheap pads will still be cheap pads. Atleast from euro there's some assurance they aren't dangerous.
I'd pay more for security. Although not £80/end.

Last set of quality shoes I bought OE the lining came off the shoe
EBC Direct were fine when i used them, have been using EBC red stuff for years and love the performance.
