Had a minor car accident tonight; was stationary in a queue of traffic and hit from behind. We've exchanged all details and they've confirmed that they've reported claim to their insurer.

Do I contact their insurer and let them deal with it or go with my own insurer (fully comp)?

What's likely to be the quickest / most efficient / least hassle way of getting my car fixed? - it at least needs a new bumper and tailgate.

I think you are obliged to report it

You claim from your insurer, they claim it back from the other insurer. Either way now it's in the system youll be logged as in an accident. Might as well let your insurance deal with it all.

I know I have to tell my insurer about it. Just want to know if there's any difference to me in who fixes it?

Get a recommended bodyshop of your choice to fix it. Anytime I have put cars in to insurance approved bodyshops I have been disappointed

Tell your insurance and they will sort everything for you. Or they should. I was with direct line and they were brilliant to be fair

Happened to me about a year ago now I remember. My insurance chose a garage and I wasn't bothered.

Having had my car hit in a car park when I wasn’t there...

give the other drivers details to your insurance company and they deal with it. the only calls I made were my initial contact and then the body shop booking the car in. It was very easy

I used the insurance company’s body shop and the repair is immaculate.

When this happened to me I told my insurer and passed them the details of the other driver.

Insurance is expensive enough that they may as well do some work for their money.

No headaches in the claim (other driver was in a company car and almost certainly looking at his phone).

No on both counts.

You notify your insurer, they then contact the other party's insurer who are liable for the repair.
