Since Reluctant's living up to his name I'm going to have another go:

A field of undyed calico, inset an arc of pink flowers against a blue sky. The name of the artist and album sit above.

Ooh, can I play too? I recorded MTB races over my rock video collection on VHS tapes 🙁

There is a video from 80's Monsters of rock show, song playing very orange 'artwork' with grim reaper playing a violin, might have been nuclear blast in the background. What song and what band?

No clue yet! Anyway, I thought someone would get it straight away - if someone gets it in the next hour, whilst I'm on the bike, it's their go...

mmannerr - best wait until the previous one has been answered or it'll get confusing! Album sleeves only, I reckon. (Someone has to make the rules!)

Come on lemonysam - what year??

Ok - maybe a tricky one

Close up on the shaven head of the artist

He is looking down at the ground so you can't see his face

He is wearing sunglasses and a very large gold chain

Not when you've got it 🙂

Yellow sleeve. Cartoon drawing of a woman's torso wearing a black bikini.
On her right tit is the artist's name. On her groin is a gun, pointing at you. She's got a fag in her left hand..

Alright another clue. This'll give it away -
album is from 2001, but they have releases going back to the late '60s.

Right:

A severe looking youngish man in a grey room.

He is sitting at a table.

He regards a geometric shape on the table with a look of indifference.

He is wearing a fairly sharp suit.

No - the staring at the object thing gave it away. Mate had it back in the day, not something I've even owned!

White border. A painting of a tree dominates the centre, with the sea and clouds behind. The tree is adorned with shells with a puffin in the middle.

Ok - tricky one to describe this

In the background is a mountain range

mid ground is the name of the artist and album

left foreground a man looks out of a window - a shard of sunlight / laser beam/ something (?) is coming from his head up into the sky. His eyes are closed

OK, try this:

Purplish background, foreground is a stylised picture of some flowers, in a reddish shade, with greyish leaves.

Top left has the artist's name and album title, in large greyish/white text.

OK, another clue:

Solo artist at times, has been part of a band in his earlier career (late 60's), multi-instrumentalist, very well-regarded for songwriting, musicianship, and producer- of his and many other artists.

Has appeared on tons of major albums.

Ok - I'm going to put this one out of it's misery

It's Todd Rundgren - Something/ Anything?

Although I'd love to see someone have a go at describing the cover of the album that followed it

When he gets back from lunch.
🙂

In the meantime:

A large female fruit cake kicks her shoes off whilst relaxing on a swing.
Watching are a snail and Gainsborough's Blue Boy.

Indeed. Better make this a quickie.

Looks like a photo taken of a TV screen. On the left, moored (if that's what you do with them!) gondolas, to the right a gondola being piloted (if..etc). City in the background. Quite fuzzy with a greenish-blue tinge. Album title at the bottom is in the photo, band name at the top overlayed in red.

Post-punk, i suppose. Maybe I should've gone with their most famous - Bold RED cover, band name in contrasting Blue across the top.
Right hand side is a few frames of a comic strip featuring a cowboy and an indian.
(I'll cry if no-one gets that!)
