No not ST...
Spending lots of time on hold to cancel a sub, online accounts don't allow you to cancel a sub (funny that...)
So should I just cancel the DD? Costing me more than the mags worth in hold time...
Yep, cancelling the dd is the way I've always done it. You usually then get a letter about your dd being cancelled, which you can ignore.
as long you completed any contract period you signed up to, cancelling the DD is fine.
Why not tell them first and THEN cancel the DD?
I have to deal with this nonsense at work regularly. Total PITA.
Just cancel the DD instead of sitting on the phone.

That much is obvious... 😕

Because they're keeping him hanging on the phone for ages, when they could make it easy for you to do it on line. That's a total PITA.
It's funny how easy they can make it when you're trying to set up a subscription.

Why should the op have to waste his time hanging on the phone when he can just cancel his subs DD with the click of a button. The 'nonsense' part is the inefficient cancellation system, if only there was a way to do it with the click of a button.
It wasn't a mag but it was a subscription, and I'd forgotten the password. There was no 'contact us' on the website, so I phoned the Building Soc to cancel. The helpful person there seemed to me to expect that I'd made a sensible attempt to inform the company, after which they'd stop the DD.
Which seems about right.

Yes, what about car insurance! We have put up our premium by £100 and to make it easy for you will automatically renew your policy..! No way to cancel the bloody thing, so you gotta phone them. I suppose this is the advantage of paying by DD rather than a one-off. 👿 not really related but its pissed me off.
I pay annually for insurance policies and turn off auto renewal.
Never seen a way to turn it off.
Total PITA sometimes. I've recently phoned Premier Sports to cancel my subs cos you can't do it online. I knew what would happen & it did, 'I can offer you a reduced subscription rate'. 'No, just cancel the bloody thing!'
I phoned up halifax recently to cancel insurance.
I was ramped up for the hard sell.
Extremly dissapointed to be done in about 45 seconds.
Spent longer trying to get my topcashback from john lewis!
I'd say it's a bit rude to just cancel payment (and potentially opens you up to extra charges, e.g. if they send the mag out in advance of payment), unless you've tried to tell them and have got tired of the hoops you have to jump through to cancel subscription.
Drives me up the wall that theee is never any way of cancelling a sub online, always ages on the phone instead. Last time I did it I just cancelled the DD, got a couple more mags (exactly what I'd paid for) and it was sorted.
Sky/virgin are the same, easy to sign up but hard to downgrade!!
Rude maybe but there's too many hoops to jump through usually, plus the annoying conversation where they try to retain /up sell.
Canceling the DD does the job, or in the case of a contract, an email giving notice to cover you if applicable, doesn't matter if they ignore the email or respond, you've done your bit and have proof, and cancel the DD at the end of term.
