Anyone lived there?thinking of relocating-
any exp?
ta.
Which island are you thinking of, why do you want to move?
What do you want to do there? My parents live in GC and love it, my sister and brother in law used to but came home to get "proper" jobs and start a family.
I have just come back from 2 weeks in Fuerteventura. I like the people and the climate but there is not much in the way of scenery. I hired a bike and covered quite a few trails and everywhere looks the same.
We live there now (Tenerife). Things are pretty tough, with 33% unemployment across the islands. It is a lovely place to be, but be prepared to have hassles like you would anywhere else.
The locals can be a hard nut to crack, but once you break through the shell, they can be the best friends. Just don't fall into the ex-pat bubble or you will sample nothing of living in the canaries.
Do your research well and believe less than 5% of the advice given to you by well meaning individuals. Always go for professional advice and even then be prepared to ask 2 different professionals as rules and regs can be interpreted differently.
Sit back and enjoy the chilled out lifestyle!
Oh, and don't buy a bar unless you want to work for 23.5 hours a day and loose all your money!
What Potdog said, oh and I got "Island fever" after 2 years living in Tenerife and needed to move on.
climate,I suppose. Was thinking about andalucia, but remember the summers there as terrible.I suffer here in barcelona as it is.so I looked at the year round weather stats and it seems great.
I've met quite a few people who relocated there from barcelona and catalunya, they seemed to think it was a change for the better.friendlier people.
It should be q bit cheaper than BCN,as well.
I'm worried there won't be much of anything,if you go to a smaller island,or just be another city,if you go to tenerife or gran canaria.
I went to cabo verde and It looks similar.nice for a week, but after two I'd gotten bored.
just thinking aloud, mostly.I think I'll keep on looking.
thanks for the replies.
(my grandparents had a bar,I don't think they ever closed it for a day in 38years,so no chance of my going that route)
My sister lives in Fuerteventura, been there about 12 years now. They took Spanish patriotism (now dual nationality) and their son has grown up there from the age of 8 having chosen a Spanish school rather than an ex-pat school. They have their own business (logistics) and, having chosen to live there, they decided to live as the locals rather than as ex pats. Just as an aside, I don't think she's ever riden a bicycle in her life so the riding isn't a priority for her... 8)
ta,what's the riding like?
i remember seeing a mtb dvd,evermore I think,they had a canary island section.
obviously road riding, esp with the teide (highest mt in spain) is going to be good.
windy all the time though.
