We want a new camper, so need to buy a new van and are looking for a Ducato / Relay / Boxer. Except I'm struggling to find what I'm looking for.

There must be loads of these somewhere, except I can't find them. Surely there are end of 3 year lease vans at approved used main dealers or other reputable dealer?

I can find pre-reg / new or tat, but struggling to find anything in between. Budget is £10 - £15k ish (I don't really want to spend that much but might just get carried away and get a 10mile pre-reg van from Arnold Clark).

Cheers 🙂

You could try the auctions, BCA etc. The same van youd see at a dealer a week later but cheaper and without the warranty.

I was looking at the British Gas Caddys to replace my car, lack of warrenty or even a real test drive is a concern but OTOH there's not a huge ammount youd expect to go wrong on a 3yr old 30,000 mile van.

Possibly due to COVID the end of lease vans are stuck in a car park gathering dust?

Maybe with the lowered restrictions and more businesses opening in the coming weeks will mean some of these vehicles gathering dust will move into auctions and dealerships?

From memory the British Gas caddy's have a speed limiter fitted that's a nightmare to remove. May have changed since I looked but it put me off having one.

Vehicles stuck at the end of lease is definitely an issue. Neighbours have had their now out of lease car stuck on their drive, now uninsured or taxed, as the lease company can't work out how to safely collect it. Hopefully that means you can get a relative bargain in 2 to 3 months when the market is swamped.

I read on self build motor caravan club website, someone was saying their brother in law has an MOT place that also sells ex lease vans and apparently these vans (trannys and sprinters) are going 3-4000 quid more at auction than before covid. Firms getting more vans for social distancing requirements also much more stuff being delivered now (vans are the new bog roll).

Cheers I shall keep trawling the Internet and give a few dealers a call on Monday to what’s about.

Arnold Clark are reopening on Monday and I guess that might be the same for some others too.

Looking at my Facebook and Instagram.... It seems that significant numbers of people both friends and randoms are using furlough to build the van of their dreams ......

5 folk I know who have never expressed interest in vans before appear to be building campers.

Based on there being maybe 1 a year if lucky in previous years that extrapolating from that suggests that demand for leisure purposes may be higher than normal

I'm in a similar boat to you, Phil, same budget. Anyone else seen a suspiciously big pile of 'nearly new' vans that have only had 1 year on the road? Wondering if these were repos or cancelled leases, being only with <2k on the clock.

Arnold Clark have loads of good stock but their feedback is either 1 star or 5 star. Anyone used them recently? Winsford branch is nearest to me.

Must be something going on - MrsF sent me a link to the kits you can fit to Berlingos/Partners that turn them into a day van/overnight camper. We don't have a Berlingo.

@fossy Amdro kits? Our current van has an Amdro interior in it, we’ll be moving it across to the new van. It’s good stuff.

We’ve just been in to the local motor home dealer, they said they were very busy and had more vans than usual to deliver this week (can’t remember how many he said but they were more than happy).

JL Vans in Cheshire. I didn't end up buying from then in the end, but they were very helpful when I was enquiring a year ago. They are more than happy to hunt down the right van for you as well.

@kitchener It’s Arnold Clark we’ve been to today. Apart from the fact that salesman knew nothing about vans having only just started, they were fine. Happy to show us around, organised a test drive and not pushy so far.

We bought the Polo from a different Arnold Clark. They were fine when buying from but absolutely useless the 3 times after that I dealt with them.

I imagine it’s a bit down to luck how the service is, you might get lucky.

for near new also see loadsofvans.com some great deals on various things.

Summary is vans are in short supply right now, lots going for much more than normal at auctions etc and while there will be a surplus in time the shortage will go a while yet with a lot of brands. Factories shut for 3 months and now running at reduced capacity, difficulty shipping and moving vehicles etc. The previous means reduced part ex, vehicles held on past planned lease dates etc.

I think that's pretty consistent across the board with them.

Get the sale fob em off after.

Would rather have not had to use AC but I couldn’t find anything else at the same price.
Pick it up on the way home from work tomorrow 😁
