Ha! With the state my wrist joints are in, I’d be happy to do one, without collapsing flat on my face!

Might be able to do 19 if its like one of those naff charity  'swim the Channel this  year' - by which they mean clock 21 miles in total in your local heated municipal pool before this time next year  (= less than 4 lengths a day - not sounding quite so impressive whe put like that) not actually be in the sea constantly for 365 days straight  doing 100 yards a day past Nigel Fascist waving at small boats).

Ordinary press-ups yep, I can do at least 19. Still do circuit HIIT classes twice a week. Couldn’t do what that guy does but would have had a go when I was 31. Used to be good at burpee’s.

Burpees never look/feel good.

not like that....

But

a few years back, i worked with an ex army signals guy, young lad, like 24

he decided to set a press up challenge

i can't remember specifically.. it started with that up sally down song... and eventually turned into how many can you do

i reckon we did it either hourly or 2 hourly.. initially i think i was struggling to reach 10 consistently..

after a week i was well past that, and after a couple of weeks smashing out 30 odd per session, however when it got to that stage it turned from not being able to do press-ups, into constant aches

shame, i did have a record somewhere could make a nice progression chart from it lol

I can do about 17 in a minute right now. My record is 24. Normal push ups of course.

I keep seeing this 2000 press ups in February challenge on social media. It's a charity thing but I think it'll make a good fitness challenge anyway, so might do it. Is it morally wrong to do a charity challenge purely for the fitness gains and not for charity? Don't know.

I might add pullups to the challenge too, maybe 1000 though as I find them a lot harder and my record is only 10 full pull ups. Right now I can do about 7.

I think if I get through the month without injury I should beat my records on both. Exciting times.

I can do 20 now but bit of a struggle - always fancied being able to do 50 (don't know why -just seems an impressive number). This thread has made me think I might have another go at trying to build up to that.

not 19 of those no, that's mental. My record 20 years back was 96 in one go, couldn't quite make it to 100 🙁 but I was mid thirties back then. Could probably manage about 35-40 in one go these days, although in a PT session I'll probably do 7 - 10 sets of 10, various different types of press ups.

I built up to 30 at a time from 'zero' in a little over a month so 20-50 is also doable.

D1 do 1 press up (or you do 20*)

D2 - 2 (you 21)

D3 - 3 (22)

etc. Each day is no harder really than before but if you fail, go back 3 and build again.

*maybe start at 15 rather than limit, so you get used to the build up. Zero (one) wasn't really my limit but 5 would have been a struggle.

In fact - challenge accepted. I just started. One done.

Re the plyo box challenge....I'm so unfit right now i don't reckon I could get on and off that box 19 times by any method without needing resuscitation.

Our Karate Club did the Cancer Research 100 press ups a day thing for a month last year.

At the end I could do it in 2 sets of 50.

Can probably do 1 set of 50 now, but it bloody hurts.

Yes. Regular chest to the floor press-ups.

Those press-ups? Absolutely ****ing not. 🤣

Bloke is a bit of a beast. Fair play.

I used to do 100 'normal' press ups before commuting to work. Pre covid. I found it a great way to warm up before getting on the bike, otherwise I'd start cold and be cold for a while, or have to change out of clothes part way. Partly due to the type of city commute I had, it took me a while to warm up

I'd struggle to do half that now, and I would never have been able to do that explosive press up. That looks nuts!

I was doing 80 - 120 a day (some rest days) from June to mid Nov last year, the aim being to do about 10,000 in total. With an identical number of situps each day too, mostly in reps of 40 at a time. Since getting to 10,000 in late Nov, ive stopped completely. I saw some muscle definition in my triceps, but nothing at all in my midriff, probably due to a longstanding predeliction for crisps 🤦‍♂️

For normal press ups it depends on the speed. If you go fast you can get a heap done. About ten years ago i'd do them first thing in the morning and add 5 more each day. Got up to 100 before getting distracted.

Nowadays i'd do them in slow sets of 20-25 as part of a circuit, or 15 with pauses, but I could definitely get 50 done if I was going hell for leather.

I probably look like i'd struggle to get to 10 🤣
