'cos it all has and it will get worse over the next few years.

Yes, it's Brexit.

Yes, it's companies using Brexit as an excuse.

Yes, it's partly uncertainty on the future

Yes it's also world commodity price fluctuations outside of UK control.

Anything I've missed?

What have *you* bought that costs more now than it used to?

....except Video Recorders.

£400 for a Betamax VCR when I was a kid.

50p out of the charity shop for a top of the range VHS player now.

Bargain.

I keep being torn between having a relatively crazy spending spree before prices get even sillier, or not bothering at all and earning 0.1% interest in the bank. First world problems etc.

Well you're in the wrong bleedin' thread then mate 😉

This one's for outrage and 'I told you so last June', not 'well this is a bloody bargin and no mistake'.

Petrol is much cheaper than a couple of years ago.

You do know, don't you, that we're going to check these things. You really could save yourself a lot of hashtags by five seconds' Googling before posting.

Petrol is in fact much more expensive than a couple of years ago. It is, however, cheaper than it was four years ago.

Average price of a litre of unleaded now is 120.1p. In previous Februaries for the last ten years:

2017 120.1p
2016 102.0p
2015 108.0p
2014 129.6p
2013 137.5p
2012 135.5p
2011 128.9p
2010 112.2p
2009 90.4p
2008 104.4p
2007 86.9p

Source:
https://www.petrolprices.com/the-price-of-fuel.html

It's been falling year on year since 2013. If that trend continued then it should have been sub-£1/litre by now, and yet notably it's suddenly 18p dearer than it was this time last year. I wonder why that might be. What might've happened between now and last February that would cause the cost of imported fuel to have spiked by 20%, hmm?

It'll be interesting to do this comparison again, oh, I don't know, to pick a time entirely at random, maybe sometime around June.

The price hasn't, rather the amount of sweetage for your penny has fallen.

Jinx.

Saying that - can you still even get penny sweets?

You can, if Penny likes sweets, but it's not the done thing these days.

Nope, your hands have got bigger 🙂

I think Cougar might be correct regarding availability.

All my bloody bills have gone up though. Council Tax, Water, Electric and Gas. Yet my wage is staying the same

Price of weed had been pretty stable over my lifetime. Was paying 20 for a Henry 15 years ago. Cousin was selling the same for 20 last year before going on an all expenses paid "holiday"....

Lambs are selling for less than they were 35 years ago at the moment. We were promised that a weak pound after Brexit would help with exports and make the price rise.

My last mobile cost 79p. Fancy the other one they sell for 79p but worried they might not refund my inital 79p and I'll end up being down £1.58 and have two phones. Who can use two phones???????????????? Doubt they residuals on it are good.

Chickens were going cheep in Tescos today.

Tunnel and ferry's to Ireland have gone up substantially since last year for same dates and times. Cost me more Tesco vouchers. First time in 15 years we have had to top up with money.

Edit. Eurotunnel

Who can use two phones?

I think its safe to say that any phone conversation will involve at least two phones.

I remember back in the days of tomorrows world it being announced that 'Noel Edmonds has bought the worlds first video phone'. The first one! Who was he going to talk to?

It created the awkward situation that whoever bought the worlds second video phone could only talk to Noel Edmonds on it.

That tunnel doesn't go to Ireland - when you come out the other end thats Birkenhead.

Stereo?

I always wondered that about Alexander Graham Bell.

It created the awkward situation that whoever bought the second one could only talk to Noel Edmonds on it.

😆

I suppose arguably that's not true, they could talk to whomever they liked. They could only see Noel Edmunds. Which is probably worse.
