Thinking this would be an easy google I'm left with all sorts of answers. I have a bank of Ireland sterling £20 note from Belfast. Can I use it here? Or do I need to change it at the bank etc? Thanks.

I think any bank will exchange for an English note 1:1.

Not sure if they are "legal tender" but I would imagine a lot of places would take them.

No.

However some shops may accept them but they have no obligation to.

They're fairly easy to spend in places like Glasgow etc.

But away from regular Irish tourist towns and Cities, you'll probably have to go to a bank

Not "legal tender" but most clued up shops will accept them, you can certainly pay them into your bank. Never a problem using them in my Taxi.
