For wasting my time..

Received a parking invoice from one of these cowboy outfits. I was clearly parked outside an area under their 'jurisdiction', which is marked by street signage

Way I see it I am obligd to respond to point out their error. This will require Photos, time spent writing a letter, a trip to the post office and a stamp.

I make this all in a round £100 for time and expenses, but if settled within a fortnight it will be reduced by 50%

What do you reckon?

I imagine they'll just do what you should do now and ignore it.

wipe your ar$e with their invoice and post it back to them
-or-
ask them to supply their "evidence" that you were parked where they say you were. Include an invoice for £50 for your time in asking for their evidence. Quote Tom -v- Jerry as your legal justification for doing so

What BBSB said.

I replied to a parking notice recently asking them for evidence that their pay machine was working (it wasn't, so I couldn't pay). Heard nowt since.

Yes you can bill them and I would use small claims for non-payment too. I have billed banks for wasting my time pointing out their errors and got paid too.

I had similar case, I appealed via Popla and lost. The machine wasn't working but I had to pay £100. Apparently it was my fault to not pay by phone.

Don't do that these days, rules have changed and it gets messy.

Challenge it via Popla and assuming what you claim is correct, it will be cancelled. I've challenged before and 'won' the case.

Like you say though, tempting to reverse invoice. Maybe after you've won the appeal though 😉

Most machines I see say if you haven't got cash or the machine is out of order then you need to pay via phone. If you can't do that you can't park there... unless of course their phone system isn't working, in which case you might have a valid argument. proving that however....

Except I am now in the farcical situation of having paid by phone been 'charged' with not clearly displaying a valid ticket. I shit you not - they actually promote pay by phone all over the ****ing carpark and are trying to now 'fine' me for not displaying a ticket.

If it wasn't such a ridiculous waste of my time I'd find it funny.

You can't just send them an invoice expecting them to take you seriously.

Like how it works with private parking, to make your invoice valid you'll have to pre-warn the company that as a condition of continuing to contact you, that by doing so, they agree to pay you an amount of £100 per hour for your time in dealing with their correspondence plus any other expenses incurred. In that way you can keep a track of time spent and then send them a valid invoice which they have already agreed to by continuing the said correspondence.

But the OP wasn't parked in an area run by the parking company so what are they gonna do about it?

Yes, send them a bill. I did this with a company who was 'chasing' me for some unpaid ticket or other and they just buggered off. I think I might also have suggested that any further letters required from me would be charged at £100 a pop or something.
