Is it too early to start the thread for, Can Cav make it over the Pyrenees.

I am a huge Cav fan boy but he looked like he had gone so so deep to get the result at the end of todays stage.

Everything is crossed in the house of Bigsurfer.

Hopefully yes.

But if not that’s still 34.

That said he’s 36 and there’s two sprint stages left…

Of course he can. You know he's going to take the record with a win in Paris 😉

His team will move Heaven and Earth to make it happen. Is there a UCI stickiness of bottle rule?

Having just read what Merckx had to say about Mark equaling his record - I hope Mark gets to beat his record even more..

"Merckx, speaking to the Italian media, was less impressed. “Of course there’s a difference between us,” the Belgian, now 76 said. “I won 34 Tour stages by winning sprints, in the mountains, in time trials and going on the attack on the descents. Let’s not forget the five yellow jerseys I’ve got at home plus the 96 days I wore it. Does that not seem much?”

There are two ways to view Merckx's record. Yes he has won on different types of stages which makes him more versatile than Cav but then Cav has had fewer stages on which he had a chance to win - so a bigger hit rate in sprints.

Different records really.

Merckx was the greatest rider I of his time and was driven to demonstrate that every day in everyway, hence his reputation and all those wins. Undeniably the best of his time. However he's a **** for not commending Cav's achievement. FFS, it's flattery to be THE comparison and without cav we wouldn't be talking about the ultra ego!

You could argue cavs 34 wins are more improved than eddys ? 34 wins at the sharp pointy end you have to be absolutely fearless and totally committed!!

Winning atop a climb isn’t as dangerous or at bottom of a descent ?

Thanks for the spoiler 🙁

Was a separate thread really necessary?

Is confusion. What part of the thread title is a spoiler?

Are you upset because you now know he didn't crash out today?

Thanks for the spoiler!!

Don't be a ****. If you don't want to know what has happened don't read a thread that names the one guy who was favourite to win the stage.

Cav has made me cry this tour. His belief and confidence, his team, his Director sportive, his talent, his skill, his wanting will do it.

I don't care about the yellow jersey this time, I just want Cav in green, on that podium in Paris.

Don’t be a *. If you don’t want to know what has happened don’t read a thread that names the one guy who was favourite to win the stage.

The fact the thread existed, when I saw it this afternoon, made me think "ah, I bet he did it then", cos why else would anyone start it, and I was a bit peeved too if I'm honest as I was avoiding any Tour threads, news feeds, Facebook etc so I could watch the highlights.

So, yeah, call me a * too if you like.

In answer to the question: probably.

It's pretty f++king obvious, to anyone with more than half a brain, from title! There's only one reason why this thread exists and it's to celebrate Cav's continuing success.

And beside, someone created an almost identical thread last week...

Maybe I'll post up thread titles with Englands scoreline on Sunday afternoon...

Merckx is undeniably the best of all time.

The quote upthread was part of a much longer piece where Merckx was pretty fulsome in his praise of Cav.

The thing with Cav is that he just loves riding his bike, the head on look when he goes for the line looks like a dogs face running after a ball! He just looks excited to be doing it.
That sort of enthusiasm is really really tough to beat.
If he stays in a decent team next year and he’s fit I can see the tally going up to 40.

But you logged into a cycling website? Did you not think that people might be talking about cycling events?
If you don’t want a spoiler watch the chuffin programme when it’s on…. 😂😂

Lunge goes to a great deal of effort (which is much appreciated) to put up a daily thread to discuss that days happenings, and yes, I avoid opening that thread until I've watched the highlights.

And as I live on the opposite side of the world to France, watching it live is a not an option (at least not every day!)
