there was a real nice one walking distance to Hathersage. I'll go have a look see if I can find the details.

EDIT:

North Lees campsite.

Do you want creature comforts or a getaway from it all (as much as possible) site?

Come to birchwood farm, whatstandwell, majorly friendly sight and not the usual strict rules, however still family run and family used so people dont take the piss, right on the edge of the peak district, riding literally from the door of the tent as I've done a few times. All a bit cheeky but some lovely quick descents within 20 mins climb time!

Just had a pleasant 3 nights at waterside farm Edale. Cheap and basic but ideal location. Going back again in a fortnight.

Should of said in my reply above:

Don't be put off by the Guardian link. It is a proper campsite not a yurt in site.

we looked into all the campsites and as above, decided birchwood looked best, so we're off there next week ๐Ÿ™‚

ukcampsite.co.uk is the stw of camping btw, so plenty of good reviews/advice on there.

North Lees is a great location, but in my experience is always very busy as it's very close to Stanage. Haddon Grove Farm nr Monyash is good.

I imagine that is true. I was last there in late November so it was understandably fairly quiet, about 6-7 tents in total over the course of the weekend. But being where it is I'm sure it fills up during the Summer.

Stayed here last week and enjoyed it. Friendly, well run site. Quite busy. Great for riding.

I stayed here http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=418380&y=366555&z=120&sv=418380,366555&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=713&ax=418380&ay=366555&lm=0 thinking it was the Haddon Grove campsite and it was 20p per minute for a shower.

Haddon Grove looks like a lovely spot with a walk to the pub, and Lathkill dale is a nice spot for an evening trail.
