It's time to think about summer hols and where to go. For a couple of years we have gone to Vallorcine, up the road from Chamonix. The benefits are:
- it's the Alps hence super scenery and hiking of different degrees of difficulty
- chairlift nearby for lazy days/quick access to higher levels
- restaurant for when you're sick of camp cooking
- near enough to Chamonix for if it really pisses down
- small campsite - quiet and mostly tents, not overrun with caravans
- northern Alps, so not so far to drive from UK

But - maybe it's a bit boring going to the same place all the time. Any other ideas that tick some, or all, of these boxes?

Austria is amazing

great road and rail links, very good restaurant on site, large pitches, quiet family friendly and a toilet block so ornate Elton John would think it was extravagant

I stayed in Lauterbrunnen over 10 years ago. Of all the places in Austria and Switzerland + Chamonix this is far and away my favourite. There is no end of stuff to do in what I think is the most picturesque settings. The only negative is that I prefer French food to Swiss.
