I often see van related posts on here, so thought I’d get some opinions
Just about to buy an vw lt Florida and somebody appetntly beat me to it...
Conundrum:
I’ve had many vans, from std t4 campers, to westfalia james cook and motorhomes
Just sold our swb t4 camper, as we need something bigger for 5 weeks away in the summer
I’ve got my heart set on a Florida but doubt I’ll find another worth buying in time...
It’s looking like our only option is a bloody motorhome (1x little fella and a baby) bikes, trailers, climbing gear etc etc, to lug around for long trips
Does anyone have any suggestions for vans I may not be thinking about, that would work? Up to £15k
Given that you are used to the quality of a Westfalia conversion you may struggle to find something that you like.
Have you looked at older Murvi or La Strada options?
La Strada yes, look a bit small though but get were your coming from regarding the westfalia finish. Thought I’d got the Florida, gutted I didn’t get a deposit down in time.
I’ll check out murvi’s, cheers
Murvi are panel van conversions from Devon. They're a little old fashioned but are very well made. Having re-read your post they might be too small.
I think the problem is that you've had a Westfalia and looked at another, so you'll be lucky to find that level of build quality in a non-German van especially within your budget.
Dethleffs, Carado, Hymer, Knaus, Geist, LMC, Laika are brands to look at on AutoTrader and eBay. At your budget eBay is probably the best place to find a van.
A motorhome for 15K is gonna be a shed.
You can get a very nice caravan for that. 🙂
Surprisingly £15k buys a very nice motorhome, our last one was immaculate with 29k miles and all the bells and whistles for £14k
I just really don’t want another, at least not until I’m old enough to accept aztec beige velour as a tasteful finish to the upholstery!
I concluded that building a van to suit us, on a crafter or sprinter is our best bet but I just don’t have time this side of summer.
I think I’m going to be left hoping another westy, or possl, or similar turns up in time.
A Karmann Karuso may fit the bill.
Not quite on a par with a Florida but a bit easier to run and maintain
Depends how big you want. There is a Murvi Mallard on Autotrader. Technically a 2 birth but a simple cab bunk would give you the sleeping space you need. (bed is wide in the back with a space tailor made for a little baby bed).
Might be worth seeing if you can get a CI Carioca 656 with that budget. It's a very good van with kids - it's what we had before the current one.
More excellent suggestions, cheers
I’m trying to avoid the motorhome thing, we had one very similar to the Carioca 656 and whilst it was very comfy and worked very well, it felt a little too holiday home like and took away from the point of camping, limiting us to where we could stay.
I do like the look of the euramobils though, clearly German!
