I have a Samsung nx3000 from 2015. Aps-c sensor, swappable lenses, 20.3mp, 18-50mm lense.
https://www.samsung.com/uk/cameras/nx3000-16-50mm-power-zoom-lens/EV-NX3000BOIGB/

I would like a 50-200mm zoom but it has a proprietary mount 😢
Second hand the lenses are 150+

Would you chop it in and eBay abc put with the £150 and buy a canon or similar so that lenses are more available/more selection or stump up the 150-170 for the Second hand lens?

If you like the camera I'd stump up for the lens. 150-170 isn't exactly outlandish for a decent lens. Can't imagine that the Canon stuff will be much is any cheaper and if it is will it be any good?

150 for a zoom lens like that is about right secondhand regardless of system. Not sure about the Samsung one, but you're not getting anything special at all from other manufacturers at that price point.

You could buy an adapter to let you use other lenses. So that could give you more options for cheap lenses. Though it would probably mean manual focus, and manually setting aperture etc. So not so useful for sports/wildlife.

Googling suggests you can get speedboosters that fit cannon lenses on an NX mount, and they'll control the lens too. Unlikely to be cheap though, £300+ and if you're after a longer lense it'll do the opposite (generally they're sized to make an APS-C sensor behave like a full frame so you'll need to buy even longer lenses (i.e. a speedbooster + 70-300 rather than a 50-200). Basically it won't be cheap.

If it's just one lense you're after and are otherwise happy with the camera then £150 is pretty cheap really. If you were looking at spending serious (I know that sounds like elitist tosh) money on lenses then I'd say swapping to canon/nikon/pentax/sony/mft mount makes more sense but if £150 get's what you want then it's money well spent.

If you like the Smasung then buy the Samsung lens. You would have to spend quite a lot to get a better camera than the NX and a zoom lens.

On the other hand having had a NX300 and some other Samsung cameras- the quality of pics is fantastic, they are super easy to use and get good results from but I struggled without a viewfinder on sunny days.
