is it possible to fit my dads old SLR lense (off a nikon) to my sony A55 DSLR

[IMG] [/IMG]

I guess i need an adaptor but from what to what?

Is the pictured lens likely to be better than my standard kit len's anyway?

What affect does this have on image stibiliastion?

Is it a Vivitar series 1 lens titusrider?

From the pics, it does not look it and if so, I would say your existing kit lens would be better than an early Viv. 28-210mm, its pre 'ai' so very early.

Thinking about it, did Viv. ever do a Series 1 28-210mm?

I would not bother imho looking for an adapter for it.

You can get a Sony / Nikon adaptor but not sure how successfull, check out http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/index.asp to confirm. Image stabilization is in the body of the camera so not an issue.Maybe better looking for old Minolta lenses (such as Beercan and Bigbeercan) as they still produce good quality shots and fit straight onto the Sony.

You can get adaptors, but they've got glass in them - need to as the mount-to-sensor distance is different. Unless it's a fantastic lens I wouldn't bother...
