Quick question...
Going to be over in Calpe, Spain for 10 days in September. We're looking to hire a car but the hotel (Grand Sol y Mar) seems to charge an extortionate amount per day for car parking i.e. more than the hire car will cost.
Anyone know of anywhere in that area of town where you can park for free or cheap? A bit of Googling suggests there is some sort of colour coded restricted parking system in the resort, but wondering whether that covers the whole place or just the streets near the beach.
Thanks in advance!
If hiring is cheaper than parking then just hire each day 😉
The beach side roads will be blue zone so u have to pay, just go a few roads back it will be free.ย Spanish families will have left by sep so you will have loads of space.ย As it's a hire car and you are on street parked, get excess insurance.
Thanks Poolman - that's what I'm hoping. Happy to head a few streets away from the beach front if I can avoid the zones. We have an annual excess insurance policy so no probs there.
Ok just looked up where your hotel is, right in the centre.ย There's deffo free spaces the other side of main road, by jysk, as I ve parked there.ย May be a bit dodgy at night but u have excess cover.
I've been there a few times over winter (the tourism off season) for cycling, can't specifically remember having any issues parking but we only ever went into town for a few hours here and there so can't comment, but -
Twice I saw locals parallel parking using their bumpers to judge distance - I guess it's just a done thing. Get the excess insurance imo - they see their cars as tools (which I appreciate, but still - insurance!!)
