It's that time of year again, so I'm looking for inspiration.

IMHO, the classic sugar and lemon takes a lot of beating but can anyone suggest some alternative great pancake fillings....

Minced beef and onion or chicken & mushroom in tarragon sauce always get my vote 😀

Don't have to. Sugar and lemon cannot be topped.

FACT.

(Runs off to whip up a batter)

(Realises he's out of milk. Cries.)

Sugar and lemon is where it's at.

Tate and Lyle's can go down nicely as well, as a second choice.

Mr Feet of Cheese,

Are you pregnant?

Got to be lemon and sugar but maple syrup comes a close (ish) second.

Nope no joke, its good honest, not all pancakes have to be sweet

by going savoury you can get a Starter Main and a few deserts out of pancake day 😯

Cheese is good. Also minced beef a la findus crispy pancake.

For sweet, try chocolate spread rolled up then with a load of squirty cream on it. Lovely.

Ok then,

Prawn and spinach soufflé with passion fruit and lime jelly garnished with bacon foam and fresh walnut juice. Scented with essence of ponce.

I have to agree with the savoury pancake comment - you can some really nice cheesy combo's.

Roper - where can I get said Bacon Foam - sounds delish. As for essence of ponce - that just sounds wrong on so many levels 😉

Sorry to have offended you Roper

If you don't like the sound of it, then don't cook it!!

I assumed fbk wasn't after 400 suggestions of lemon and sugar!

Had nutella in one for lunch, and squeezed orange/honey in the other.

If I'd had time I'd have fried some mushrooms with garlic and grated some cheese though.

Always prefer savoury if I have the choice.

Another vote for cinnamon and sugar and a touch of lemon juice - yum!

Or if you like it super sweet maple syrup and lemon juice.

All pancakes ready to go for this evening 🙂

Will feel like a lard arse for eating so much, but will hopefully give me enough of a sugar high to last me through Lent.

Whilst lemon and sugar is the best I do like ones with icecream stuffed in the middle. My mum used to make wholemeal ones with cheese which were most good.

beer batter pancakes are where it's at!

I have a secret beer batter recipe, that is unrivaled in the world of cuisine.

Pancakes. So utterly simple.

'Ooh, why don't we have them more often??'

Because it's a right mess to clean up, after...

I wasn't actually aware you could put anything else other than sugar and lemon on a pancake.

And it shall remain that way.

Sugar and lemon, the best - fact.

Do like the idea of adding vanilla though. Cheese and spinich is lovely if you have to do savoury.

Now that sounds like a plan. Well, the vanilla extract bit anyway 🙂

Just played the Maid Marian song for my students at the end of the lesson and they looked at me like I was a bit odd. Not sure they got it.

From the kids' plates I had an assortment of chocolate spread and syrup pancakes. Three or four altogether.

I had a lemon and sugar to start, then a chocolate spread and strawberry, then a lemon, sugar and syrup.

*burp*

People - be brave. The fried egg pancake is a legend in our house. I may be the only fan but it is a legend nonetheless. And yes I know it is pancake yesterday.
