This weekend Its been quite hot and I know I didn't drink enough water.
My Lithium levels raised. Bad stammer, really shaky hands and confused and zero memory.
Last night I got in and drank a lot of water. I reduced my tablets last night.
I'm still quite the same today and need to fly tomorrow to Manchester via Zurich.
My question is is water the best to drink or will these rehydrating sports drinks help me better.
Thanks in advance.
I'm NOT a doctor but I thought that water and fruit juice 50:50 was a faster rehydration option.
Doc answering. I would want you do have some bloods done for sodium/potassium as well as your Lithium levels, and your urine tested for similar TODAY.
Lithium can cause nephrogenic DI.
The internet is not the place for advice. See a doctor or go to an emergency room now.
I'm in Vienna today and won't get results until Wednesday. I'm in the uk tomorrow so am just trying to flush out the Lithium with as much water as I can.
I had the same issue last year and went to the emergency room and what they told me was to cut down my pills and drink water. My other slight worry is that if I cut down my my pills too much I become hypomanic and that's probably not a good state to be in to fly. I'm not the best flier anyway and I just hope it doesn't trigger me.
I have left a message with my uk psychiatrist so hopefully he will call me back.
As you know - but for other STWers, the danger is that lithium disrupts the automatic nature of your fluid regulation by your kidney. I wouldn't want you flying in that state, or without knowing your test results. These can be got the same day in the UK by any GP, and within 30 mins in A&E/ER. I simply don't believe you cannot get them today in Vienna.
Your call mate. I'm out.
Do you have a travel insurer? Get onto them, and find out where your local hospital is, and start making plans to get there. As said above, there are hidden complications you want to be getting checked out for.
Certainly wait for advice from your consultant in the UK before stepping onto a plane.
I know where the hospital is. It's 2 tram stops from my place. I'll go there and ask.
I have to get my bloods done in Vienna when I'm here anyway and that place is always 2 days.
Many thanks Stoatsbrother.
If my shrink says don't fly I'll just stay here. I am only going to a party and see how my garden is in Wales. I've been paying a guy enough so it should look like a Chelsea prize winning affair.
martinhutch - for him I believe it is complicated. Vienna is where he lives, the UK is where his psychiatrist is...
Actually I live in the uk. I'm just in Vienna doing a few bits and pieces. I have homes in both places. I am a uk citizen, do not work in Austria, like to spend time here as my mrs iolo is Austrian. I've been here three weeks this time. Supposed to return August for a month then Christmas. Otherwise I'm in the uk.
All my taxes and NI contributions go to uk economy.
sorry - got the wrong end of the stick from your posts from a few months ago...
I just got back from AKH (a very good hospital here in Vienna).
They tested my blood. I'm over on the safe limit of lithium but not by much.
I need to drink water by the barrowful. They spoke to my shrink and agree its safe to fly.
Thanks Stoatsbrother.
