Decided I'm sick of struggling to fit bikes and kit in a small car. Been lucky enough to find a decent caddy which is within my budget.
Looking at insurance at the moment and starting to get tangled up in insurance quotes. I can only have one vehicle due to issues with parking at home so this would have to be my daily driver as well so that means I need the equivalent of SDP insurance with cover for commuting as well. In the car world this is obviously nice and simple but as I understand it with a van this means I need some form of business cover. Anyone got any advice about the best way to go about this ?
Going to ring round some insurance companies tomorrow to try discuss it with someone but thought I would try get some advice here as well.
Do you have a business.
If not you just need social domestic pleasure and commuting.
10 years ago this was an issue
Today it's an easy thing to get you just tick the box for commuting.
Direct line were very cheap when I had my caddy.
Are Caddy’s restricted to van speeds? Probably are unless you get a Caddy Life. Just something to bare in mind.
Yep Restricted unless it's a life.
In the real world it's not really an issue unles your in the habit of being a bellend.
Brentacre are pretty good. They also no additional cost for modifications aslong as they dont increase the value or bhp significantly.

I honestly don't consider myself a bellend 🤔 although obviously your view may differ...
But twice been pulled out of a stream of traffic travelling at 58 / 60 mph on an A road. Slightly embarrassing that it happened twice, but thought it was just really unlucky first time round. Now I'm the annoying person at the front of the traffic queue going 10mph slower than everyone else wants to be going 🙄
That might not bother you but worth acknowledging that it can be an issue.
So go on... flame away...
My son runs a little kangoo. Insurance company just wanted to make sure he wasn’t going to use it for multi drop work. He said it was for carrying his bike and they were happy with that. He is insured for commuting, I think cost is close to 1k but he is young and has 6points (see speed limit advice above!). He got caught 3 times doing close to 70 on dual carriageway before realising they all came through in 1 week!
Greenlight sort me and my Caddy out. Its modified and used for my work as a decorator plus SDP, cost for about £400 FC
I use my Caddy as a daily and initially used Direct Line then switched to Admiral £320 p/a on a private s/d/p policy with a few mods.
Used direct line. They're happy to move NCD from a van to car and vice versa. They insure for business use but include s,d&p, but obviously check you have the right cover for you.
The only thing you will lose on a van policy is 'drive other cars'
I got this back when mine became a camper
We had our Caravelle insured with Direct Line, in fact all our cars were. When we got the Kombi last year ended up with A-Plan and very happy with them too.
