The original by the sight assisted Mr Cocker is a fantastic tune which brings back good memories of a great time in my life.

I think you'll find that William Shatner's version is definitive.

It definitely is - Its a great song but Pulp's original underplays the best bits of it - the last half of the song is sort of thrown away but its where the best observed lyrics are. Although Shantner camps it up a bit he really gets to the heart of what the song is about.

I always preferred the original.

In my opinion one of the greatest songwriters is Jarvis.

if we are going for bad mixes then this one was on my "in the mix '96" cassette;
