Constant buzz from this thing started this afternoon. Managed to shut it up by flipping an unnamed switch in the fuse box, but buzzing continues if we flip the switch back.

Any electricians in the house who can explain what's happening please? Am I looking at a nasty bill?

That's a surge protector. Perhaps doing its job?

Thanks Matt for the detailed reply. Afraid I don't know much about this type of thing.

I'm kind of after an understanding as to whether it needs resetting in some way, replacing, and whether that's something I can do or if I need to call out a pro.

Could be a loose core in a coil assembly buzzing, or loose wire (arcing)  Is it hot to touch? Does a gentle tap make the noise go away ?

Thank you Ming, it doesn't feel hot and giving it a knock doesn't affect it. The buzzing is loud which suggests some kind of alarm, yet the lights on the front are both green.

Maybe find a fault guide for it

It's to protect vulnerable electrical equipment from power surges from your mains supply

If you didn't fit it, you might not need it; ring your power distributor (the one you'd ring for a power cut, rather than the one you pay) and ask if it's necessary
