Hi
I'm just about to buy a frame from a private seller , I've had numerous phone calls with him and seems sound . I've agreed a sale and he's sending the frame insured etc . Do the question is if a use Paypal should I still pay the fees or send gift ?
He hasn't requested gift . Its just me wondering if there's any benefit to paying the fees
If he's using insured post surely if there is a dispute i.e. Loss of item ..then the insurance should cover it ?
Or would you still pay the fees (£45) ?
Thanks

Um, surely the seller pays the fees?

Yeah, if the seller has said he’ll accept PayPal, but not stated gift or you pay fees, then just pay the agreed amount and let them pay the fees

£45? So frame is £1350-ish?

Just pay via regular Paypal and the seller takes the hit on the fees.

He doesn't mind if I pay Paypal gift or I cover the fees
It's just me wondering what benefits paying the fees gives me ?
If he posts it and it gets lost then the postal insurance should cover a claim ?
Or is it a question of if he doesn't post it , then I can claim if Paypal ?

let them pay the fees - if they don't like it (I wouldn't) then they can refund you and look for another buyer

Paying the fees enables buyer protection. If it doesn't turn up, or it does and is knackered, you can get your money back if they don't sort you out.

If it was me, and the fees were considerable, I would suggest go 50/50.

Edit: Actually if the fees are that much, and unless the seller was 200+ miles away, I'd just go and pick it up. Added bonus of inspecting it.

You are getting the protection, it makes sense for you to pay for it.
The buyer wants a price for the frame, not the price minus PayPal's slice.

As a seller, there is always a risk of someone abusing the PayPal protection and committing fraud - we just tend to consider the seller to be the dodgy one.

Traditionally the seller pays the fees, so unless otherwise stated that's how it should be, certainly wouldn't go anywhere near paypal gift for that sort of value & is a non no as far as stw towers is concerned anyway, if the seller wants you to add fees they should have said so from the start. For that sort of money, personally I'd collect & pay cash.

There is a reason there’s a shit ton of warnings about paying for stuff on PayPal gift in the FS section here.

Insured postage won’t get you your money back if it goes missing (only the seller, as it’s his contract with the courier)/the seller simply doesn’t post it...

Are you willing to let the frame go over £45? Same question for the seller too, but if he had any sense he’d have built the projected fees into his asking price...

Thanks guys ...decided to pay the fees

The seller seems sound enough and offered collection but the distance was to far
