Had a bit of a surprise at the weekend. My birthday on Saturday so went to see the folks and go for a family meal. Expected the usual card with a 20 pound note inside but instead was given a cheque by my dad for £2000! ( the explanation was that my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer late last year and I more or less took the year out to help them with everything and also spent a couple of weeks redecorating their house and garden whilst my mum was in hospital as a surprise). Anyway my folks said they wanted me to have a treat, something just for me without the guilt of feeling like I was just being frivolous so despite an hour of me saying ' i can't take that from you' and them saying 'you're taking it' I did in the end leave a couple of thousand pounds better off with the explicit in instructions I am to enjoy it.

So.... I now have the enjoyable process of deciding what to treat myself to. Sensible ideas not an option nor sadly, are coke and hookers. Thoughts?

Holiday, with or without bike.

Edit: And well done for being someone your folks can rely on.

standard ideas .. split it between

bike holiday would seem obvious first choice, if you do those normally upgrade to something you'd normally think was too pricey

watch

savings, rainy day money, ring for mrs right someday ?

High quality Coke OR up market hookers?

Make your parents proud with £2k of really bad tattoos?

What would you enjoy using it on, Bike Stuff, 'any other interests'?

I'd be using it on some sort of holiday, properly cheesy cliche, but spending money on travelling really is a way to spend money and become richer.

Do you have very strong urge to spend the money immediately? If yes, then I am afraid it's hookers and hookers ... Otherwise, keep the money in the bank and plan for the ultimate holiday abroad where you can live like a king for a period of time ... probably involve some hookers as well. 😆

Long holiday in Whistler next summer. Anything else would be foolish.

Well, it's been so long since i've really enjoyed anything I feel a bit like a kid in a candy store now. A holiday would be nice, really nice but likewise i'd be tempted to make some time and indulge in a new hobby, simply because I've not got my teeth into something for so long and feel like it's the sort of thing I could do with at the moment.

A month skiing? Perhaps cycle tour the length of New Zealand. 2k buys a great guitar. A lovely camera?

Needs to be memorable and not rushed! Enjoy

First of all well done for taking care of your family.Buy yourself one of those one month european train tickets and go as many countries as you can in a month i think they can cost either side of a grand.Eastern europe is fantastic for hookers and coke too. 😉

You've answered your own question. Take a holiday to Bolivia you know the rest.

Ask work if you can take your leave next summer all in the one go. If they're nice people ask if any chance of some unpaid leave on top of this. Live like a bike bum out of your car/van for as long as you can get away with. Touring around Europe or North America or wherever takes your fancy. Make a list of trails to hit and places to see.

If you haven't got one, two grand would build a really nice man cave.

Or you could buy a lot of a well known branded soft drink and invite some rugby players round. 😛

If 2k landed in my lap right now for frivolous enjoyment it would be tickets for the family to go to Cape Town (with a bit of a top up I suspect) in about a years time when youngest is old enough to begin to appreciate it. The chance to take the boys to boulders beach and kirstenbosch and visit their aunt and must not forget feasting on steak at Spur.

Buy Premium Bonds and leave it there till you know what you really want. You'll have a chance of winning some more cash and will be helping the nation reduce the deficit too(or funding MPs coke and hookers exploits).

I vote a holiday or an experience of some sort rather than a object. Alternatively education, but I think a once in lifetime holiday / experience is better. Somewhere you would not normally go, but would like to go.

Both will stay with you for life but a object will just come and go.

Blimey can you lot not read. He says coke and hookers isn't an option, so clearly wants our advice on which one to choose. My vote is for the hookers.

Invest in coke and the hookers will follow.

What would Pablo Escobar do?

(Build his own zoo, obviously)
