We will be in touch
We've had BT bb for a lonnnnng time and there is a certain inertia to swapping. However, having just found out we've been paying 38 quid a quarter for the privilage of BT Sport for the last six months I've had enough.
I don't normally see the bills and it appears we're out of contract. Queries to both the 'call centre' and the cancellations teams met with "tough - you should have called us" atttitude and not one word about extending the contract! So, BT Sport cancelled (with the recent investment you'd think they'd at least try to retain customers) I now need to look elsewhere.
I find Sky a minefield but seemingly I can get all that BT offers plus some council telly for much less money, even when the intial offers expire.
SO my questions are: -
Is there another option that avoids BT or Murdoch (no Virgin here)?
Or if not, did a change from BT to Sky go smoothly i.e. did you get to keep your numbers and not lose broadband (we both work from home)?
Thanks
ADSL or FTTC?
Vodafone broadband
no crappy sports package you don't want. Unlimited downloads. Decent speeds.
I found Sky quite efficient when I joined them from someone else. I'd imagine any problems in your case would be due to BT's general incompetence. Make sure you check your bank statements afterwards - they are quite likely to be still billing you.
The Sky box is brilliant and you can drive a hard bargain to get a good deal at the mo. I don't bother with the movies or sport, but the HD package gives you pretty much everything else you would want.
cougar - the latter
Right.
It's a good question then. In the ADSL world, the cabling is essentially all Openreach. With FTTC I'm not sure whether that's still the case. It'd make sense that it was, then when you change provider they just change who's running the show at the exchange, but I don't actually know. If it is then changing should be trivial.
I've spoken with one of our Transmissions engineers who deals with this stuff every day to ask the question, and he didn't know for certain either. He's told me he's going to look into it and let me know.
My understanding is that FTTC can normally be switched over automatically, and you don't even need a MAC code any more.
Fibre to the Premises unfortunately requires so much expensive jiggery pokery at the exchange/cabinet than most providers don't want you! Ask me how I know...
Ta. Appreciated.
