on the iphones with orange acces to this is included, but i'm thinking of getting an HTC desire instead as its on a cheaper tarif which doesn't include the BT openzone access.

Is it worth having this? The tarif includes unlimited internet access from the phone just not openzone access. TBH i dont even know where BT openzone stuff exists so if anyone can enlighten me about it that'd be great! I'm guessing you can get it in some cafe's / airports etc? And if necessary can you just buy access in a cafe if you want it? I presume the advantage is its much faster than browsing just using the mobiles 3g reception?

cheers

Yes, it is a lot faster to browse on a wi-fi connection. BT Openzone have an awful lot of base stations in cities. I'd say it is a useful thing to have but you can easily buy it directly from BT.

Openzone is everywhere and they have reciprocal agreements with lots of other wi-fi providers to use the OZ account through them.

Browsing will be anthing up to twice as fast as 3/3.5g where you can get it. Depends where you are going to be. Lots of coffee places etc have free wi-fi. I used BT OZ a lot when I was travelling, but that was to get laptop access

i'm in the lakes and i did a search with the openzone coverage checker on the BT website, only a few 'openzone hotspots' but theres a lot of 'BT Fon' access points. http://btopenzone.hotspot-directory.com/

can i use the 'BT Fon' access points as well with an openzone account? Or are these just for people with BT home broadband?

I was recently using a btfon point - it has login possibilities of "bt fon, bt openzone" and "bt total broadband" so I guess it's the same thing - I was on bt total broadband and used the openzone login :S
