I need to receive text messages reliably and these can only come through as SMS, not via Whatsapp etc. I am on O2 currently and get no signal in the house. Not a problem for calls as I get WiFi calling but this does not cover SMS.
BT Mobile have some good deals (as a broadband customer) so considering shifting to their mobile. I think they use EE network which IME is pretty good. Big plus though is that they claim that their WiFi calling also covers SMS. Does anyone have any real world experience of this, is it good and reliable?
Yes - it works fine. You can even make it your phone in “flight” mode and then then turn on Wi-Fi to restrict it Wi-Fi calling / texts only. This helps quite a bit on battery life.
Great stuff, thanks. SMS definitely come through okay on Wi-Fi then?
Yep. BT Mobile is just an MVNO running on EE - the latter introduced Wi-Fi calling texts years ago.
Well, you learn something new every day. I'm on EE, just tested SMSoWiFi with the phone in aeroplane mode, and it works!
Works on Three PAYG, if that helps. Could keep your current thing and just run a second phone as necessary.
