I’m off with work to live in sandy places for a couple of months. Am taking my Brompton because-well why not...

it hs been a while since I last flew with a bike, do we still deflate tyres for the aircraft hold or just leave them and have a fully working bike at arrivals?

I've never deflated my tyres, and never been asked to either.

Is this post really about deflated tyres or the fact you have a new job ?

I congratulate you on your new job, but on principle won’t tell you about your tyres !!!

Dont forget to to buy some sand tyres !!!

Atmospheric pressure at sea level is around 11psi, so even taking your Brompton into space would only add 11psi to the tyre pressure. In other words, no - leave the tyres inflated. It’ll protect them too.

Thank you gentlemen, that's what I was thinking but good to hear the collective consensus.

Not a new job, same one relocated temporarily. But without the family so a lot of downtime to sleep and bike in the sunshine (even if it is just laps and laps and laps around the perimeter)

The airline staff usually ask me.  I let some air out, but not all of it.

Any reason you're taking a Brompton specifically?

Airlines worry about weight and not size, and whilst a Brompton is lighter than a MTB, it's not excessively considering the performance penalty off road.

If you're thinking about road cycling then a road bike would actually be lighter.
