What does the sample size matter? The meat of the stats was the actual spending on the items compared. How many people here know on 70p of every £100 of benefits is fraudulently claimed? (For clarity I didn't).

to make the results meaningful?

for instance you could ask one person if SS built good wheels, or gave good CS - and they might say yes. So therefore you could say that 100% of people asked would recommend SS for wheels or CS.

I didn't know the figure but knew £24 was waaaaaay off the mark. Ditto the stuff about immigration, benefits v pensions.

Media and politicians have a lot to answer for, blowing up issues out of proportion. Immigration and benefits cheats are the current bogey men. Seem to recall something about single mothers under major's government.

On the plus side, 66% didn't, so there's still hope for humanity.

"Most folk haven't a clue about most things"

is probably a more correct headline...

34% of those who could be bothered to vote thought it was a better idea to vote Tory than any of the other available options.

36.9% voted Tory which is rather more than voted Labour - it's a least bad thing for many.

I kind of agree with you - it can be VERY hard to get a true view on many of the things we're told... but you can blame the public for swallowing it now that we have the internet and social media - it's much much easier to get alternative views now -you just have to put the effort in.
e.g. if you want the left wing view, go onto Guardian website, or for the opposite perspective, go to The Telegraph - costs nothing but an extra minute of your time. Compared to 20 years ago when buying both papers cost extra...

I suspect, however, in a world which is changing VERY fast in many many ways, and with too much information being available, many people are just clutching at the simplest explanation that matches their existing views and prejudices - a bit like a toddler hugging a teddy when they're scared. Hence the rise in appeal of UKIP and SNP - 2 parties trying to hide away from globalisation rather than embrace it...peddling a simplistic narrative rather than sell people the benefits of change

So, in the 'hope for humanity' you've included the 12.6% who voted UKIP? 😯

UKIP are in the 'mostly harmless' category as they'll never get elected and therefore never actually change anything....

I voted for Russel Brand. Was that really wrong? As I am only a sample of one then surely it doesn't matter.

Erm... One of the policies that drew people to the independence argument and the SNP is that they want to stay in the EU.

12.6% UKIP - you've got to distract the recessive neanderthal gene pool somehow

It stops them disrupting the class, and they'll be extinct within a couple of generations 🙂

You can't blame people for believing that, just look at the shit they're fed every day in some of the press.

Which is possibly why there are people who believe passionately in the existence of chemtrails, because if it's on the Internet, in a YouTube video, it must be true, and everyone else is lying. 🙄

They're a product of a society that dislikes teachers and education, where geeks like Ed Milliband are frowned upon as is intellectualism in general. If the people valued knowledge and education then papers like the Sun would appeal to them less.
