I've read the GOV.UK guidance but has anyone done this recently?
Any top tips?
Top tip..just don't bother
Kill it. Stuff it. Post it.
salt and pepper?
Speak to your vet, most will have done something like that or know somebody who has.
A friend of mine did it recently. They flew with it. Don't know the details, so no help. I know it wasn't a drama. The above advice is probably good.
I'm a vet in West Yorkshire. TBH most vets here may not be that informative because when we do paperwork, it is always for animals leaving the UK, either via export or Pet passport, rather than entering. Having said that, we have a couple of American clients who brought their cats over with minimal hassle. The main thing is attention to detail, if the papers say rabies vaccine must be done at least X time before travel, make sure that is adhered to. If the vet stateside has to examine within 48 hours or 1 week, or whatever, of travelling, then don't cut any corners with that. Airlines generally have requirements on the type of permitted cat carrier, again make sure yours complies (many on the market do anyway). For the cat's sake, get the largest permitted carrier. Oh, and if the poor cat is sounding a little distressed in the airport, don't open the box to give her a stroke and allow her to escape! Have a good trip.
About to do it to Canada - https://www.petairuk.com/
Bloody expensive for a £30 moggie, but it was a condition of emigrating from my daughter
Thanks all - perhaps last night was the wrong time of night to ask STW!
We did similar, bringing a Dog to the UK from Malawi. It was a slightly logistic faff but all quite smooth overall.
We used a local contact who did logistics paperwork and we simply needed to do microchip / rabies / vet forms. The logistics at Heathrow was very smooth and I think the dog had a moreenjoyable trip than we did.
Flipping expensive though . . .
