Just taken a can of Punk IPA out the garage, sat down on the sofa, opened the can and ...... it’s everywhere, clean jeans, sofa, ....

Reckon 1 in every 6-8 cans does a Mt Versuvius and you lose 20% of the contents.

Anyone else hit with the Brewdog IPA lava flow.

I found this was an issue if the fridge was set to coldest

The beer would explode and the remains would be pretty flat.

Turned the fridge down a bit to mid range and it stopped happening and beer isn't flat.

Beer is still cold....just not verging freezing.

It’s a feature not a bug. Just use it as a pre prepared item to play Beerhunter.

I get the same with Punk AF. Some packs are fine. Other go everywhere. Consistent through all 4 cans in the pack though.

unfiltered and unpasteurised means this will happen
hop creep adds to the random factor

Yup, I've had this, had a whinge to them, got £15 off next order. It must be a known problem.

To the tune of the Not the Nine O'clock News song...

Nice marketing, shame about the beer.

Alternatively don’t buy it. Sorry, but I really don’t get BrewDog - it’s okay but not worth the premium to drink it at home out of a can.

premium? Quid a tin @ Tesco or £2.10 for the 9.2% DIPA?! Bit pricier if you buy off their website (but also a lot more variety). It’s not expensive beer 🤣

Even the alcohol-free versions seem to have a tendency to explode out of the can. Learned my lesson the hard way and now open them in the kitchen over the sink.

Happens with Lost Larger a bit too. But I have been keeping the beer in the garage over the winter. Tried to drum it into the Missus, but she always opened the can and then looked for the glass. 😁

Not experienced any exploding - but had 48 cans delivered the other day... better be careful.

(All Alcohol-free)

Yeah I stick to Carling at home as well....

It's my local brew so I'm ok with it .

Rumour has it they've just bought one of the local estates. If you've been over the Burma Road from Aviemore then it's that bit of land. I know they have a tree-planting scheme in operation so it could be related to that. There is a good chance they'll join the Cairngorms Connect project too.

they've just raised £15M+ with their latest round of crowdfunding which is all going into environmental projects - the new forests, CO2 recovery, wind turbines, biogas, water recycling etc, on their way to being carbon negative, pretty cool stuff (obviously I appreciate this will save/make them money eventually so it's not purely altruistic but it's a great direction to go in IMO)

I had this for the first time last night. 4 cans in one box all exploded, the 4 front t'other were well behaved.

I always tap the can before opening it though

What does this do?

summons the hop faeries to ensure you get a perfect pour and no beersplosion... but it only works if you've been good & been supporting indies... if you drink macro beer they'll shake up the cans and piss in them.

Yeah I stick to Carling at home as well….
obviously will make no difference in this case 🤣

What does this do?

It's all to do with nucleation of the C02.

It only works if you are standing on a treadmill though.

I think on QI they said you had to tap the side of the can.

Its enough live yeast cells going imto the can and causing secondary fermentation. Which adds CO2 to the beer,, that has had CO2 injected in to it already
Plus its going to have some fermenting sugar so it fermenrs and fizzes up
Can be also caused by wild yeasts, brettonmyces etc that are able to break downs more complex sugars

One problem with Brewing lots of different beers with lots of different yeasts is you can get cross contamination and a vigorous yeast in a can is bad

Tapping the can , urban myth. The bound co2 isnt going to change. Best thing is too open it dead slow ar 3c. Cans are made with a very slight variation to the depth of the scoring under the tabb. So they start to fail at one end then track round. A tiny hole to let the can de pressure slower might help. Plus pour into a wet oversize glas

Either way, should not happen. I guess they had thousands of gallons im stock and no pub trade so they canned the lot, but i would brew differently for keg, cask and small pack so they have probably crossed their fingers and hoped it would be ok

Does this secondary fermentation mean that there might be increased alcohol in my (0.5%) Punk AF?

legally it could be between 0-1% anyway as 0.5% tolerance is allowed.
Most big brewers can hit the number very accurately though - for example although Carling advertise 4% ABV it's actually brewed to 3.7% as it's cheaper on ingredients & they pay less tax.
