So I'm after a weekend (or midweek) getaway in May to rekindle our spark (after kids), something breathtaking of natural beauty ....sit on top of a mountain type stuff (I don't want to get pickpocketed in Paris etc)

Any suggestions?
Fly from Manchester or Birmingham (ideally)

Natural scenery Iceland is pretty amazing, not cheap though.

Hike up a mountain, take some vino and swim in the natural hot springs at the top with a few glasses. Let the wine chill in the snow. 🙂

hot springs in iceland are many things but I'm not sure romantic is one of them.

Sleeper train to Fort Bill, drunken fumble after extended drinks in the buffet car, Up Aoanch Mor or the Ben, nice dinner somewhere like Crannog, stay in a hotel.

Small Island? Lundy? Scily Isles? Orkney? Arran?

That can work out more expensive than Iceland

then scenic train to Mallaig, ferry to Inverie on the Knoydart peninsula - so remote no roads go there. But you do have the option of walking from Kinloch Hourn (although you're best to allow 2 days for the walk)

Marrakesh? Not long on plane to get there, to feel somewhere very different, not long by vehicle to highest mountain in North Africa, Toubkal, amazing waterfalls at Cascades D'Ouzoud and great scenery at Dades and Todra gorges, desert and the classic Sahara sand dunes at Erg Chebbi?

Up to Norway (fly into Bergen) and do some of the paths and mountains around the fjords. Geiranger particularly impressive.

Finland. Ok so no mountains, but AirBnB a cabin by a lake, sit and chill. It's magic. And even better, the locals do this sort of thing all the time, they recognise how important it is, so the infrastructure and facilities exist.

Euphemism of the day.

Salzburg is rather nice, I did a job there a few years ago and really rather liked it.

The Hebrides- park your car on the mainland and take bikes over on the ferry. Cycle, eat salmon, drink beer and be outside.
