Looking at breakdown cover for my car. I am currently with the AA and the price seems a bit steep. Altthough I am going to call them up and see if they will drop the price as I have been with them for the last 8 years.

Other than RAC and Greenflag are their any others worth looking at?

Definitely try haggling for starters. Have you got any Clubcard points to use up? Various other tips here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/roadside-recovery

Quidco had an offer for the AA a month or so back. They now have one for RAC that may be woth a look.

Do you have an old car or new? I have an 07 Passat and very rarely need a callout so i go with AutoAid. £38 a year BUT it works that you pay for the callout then claim it back.

I did a lot of research and on a fair few forums it seems their system works really well and money is back in your account within a week.

Not worth it though if you have an old car and have multiple callouts i reckon

I've used Quoteline Direct (they're covered by Axa, but used to be Meridian) for the past 2 years and they've been very good.

Our car broke down when on holiday and they got it to a garage, who couldn't fix it but they got us home at the end of the holiday - a 350 mile trip. Little call outs are always handled promptly and they use local garages as "patrols".

Costs peanuts too.

Crikey, Quoteline Direct are way cheaper than the AA.

Cheers.

I use Tesco - the trucks that come out are RAC, and it's a fair bit cheaper than paying for RAC cover.

And it was recommended by someone who works for the RAC...

It might be worth looking into cover provided by some bank accounts.
We are with Natwest, paying about £10 a month for the account but the total savings given all the extras is excellent.

After spending 20 minutes backwards and forwards haggling with the AA, they have reduced my original quote to almost less than half!!

So it went from £139.32 to £77.71 after listening to the constant sales pitch and the 'We do not price match sir' one liner every other sentence! lol

Just goes to show, keep haggling!

Really? They never price matched or dropped for me. So I left and went with Green Flag (fine ssrvice btw). THEN the AA dropped their price, then came the offer of M&S vouchers, then a bigger discount. But I had to leave first.
