depends on the surname, surely? As the owner of a name that was popular briefly in the late 60's, I'd say nothing fashionable.

Having said that, we have an Albert and a Wilfred in the extended family, and that fits a short surname very well.

If all else fails, Thomas.

Depends on surname indeed. We two Neil McNeil's at work. Surely the parents would have thought that one through.

My son is called Barnaby. He seems to like it, although he's only four months old so I can't be sure.

Whatever your middle name is (that worked for our first one*) or maybe what your father's name is.

* it has the added advantage of being a simple, ordinary, traditional name, which most people of parental/STW forumite age would think of as being not at all unusual, but hasn't been in the top 100 names for the last 5 years or so (headmaster of his new school reckons he's never had a pupil with that name before) - any guesses?

How about Judas? My mate chose that as his Confirmation name. His brother chose El Saeed.

Personally, I like Juan Manuel Fangio Allmountainventure.

OOOO names are VERY personal, some suggested above are hideous! So I'm not going to suggest any, as it has to be something your happy with not someone else! Althouhg as mentioned you do have to consider your surname, I went to school with a "christopher Greenshields" did his parents not realise there aren't enough spaces on official paperwork to write that down 😉 and that is without his middle name!!!

Officialdom failure is hardly the fault of his parents.

My old P.E teacher was called Mary Christina Moss, AKA: Mary Chris Moss. I think she was a boy as she had a beard, you could steal that idea?

I've got a niche one for you if you're interested..

We called our lad Farley.. so there couldn't be any arguments about who's rusks they are..

It also means - 'of the meadow' in old english apparently..

And more importantly it's also the name of

this guy one of the pioneers of chicago house music..

We're calling our next kid 'password' so it's easier to remember for our online banking, forum log-ins etc..

..........

Rik

..........

My son was the first one in his class to be able to spell his name :D.

He has no other (middle) names or anything, just Rik. No need to over complicate things I think.

Also I am dutch, so his name has to work in both languages.

Avoid anything too fashionable or unfashionable, I know first hand how much fun it is to have a crap name at school.

You will probably fret for ages choosing the right name and then never really give it much thought afterwards.

We're calling our next kid 'password' so it's easier to remember for our online banking, forum log-ins etc..

The problem there is that "please enter password" takes on a whole new meaning.

Now we are looking for girls names to go with it.

To go with it? They're people, not soft furnishings. Have a word with yourself.

I followed the Beckhams' idea of naming their kids after the place where they were conceived. Our little Sainsburys is nearly two now.

More seriously,

Harry (there's a shock), Joshua, Jack, Oliver have been the most common boys' names for a few years now, if that's any help.

If we ever had the misfortune to spawn, it'd be Onyxia for a girl, Nefarian for a boy. Nerdism from day one, no compromise!

Although I quite like Zachariah too.

My sister-in-law said that if she wanted a girl, she wanted to call her Eleanor. We said, "You can't call her that!" and she said, "What's wrong? It's a lovely name!"

"Eleanor Rigby? Really?"

"Yeah, what's wrong with that?"

"Beatles song?"

"Oh, never heard of it."

We have named crankbrat with my late fathers name as his first name and my wife's fathers as his middle. They are good traditional names Harold and James though we call him Harry for everyday use.

i have the dubious privilege of an unusual made up name? it meant there was never any doubt over who to blame at school and does tend to get me remembered. It also gives me a good line in bollocks when people ask where it comes from.

Have you been to a Dogs Trust centre? All the dogs are called stuff like Dave, Edward and Dillon. Dogs are increasingly given sensible names, giving stupid names to kids is the natural response!

Sadly, I understood that. <shuffles away>

MANY WHELPS. HANDLE IT.

I quite like the idea of giving your kid your middle name, mainly because in our family we have a tradition of giving kids our first names as middle names. You'd get stuck in a loop over generations, but at least you'd never be agonising over choice. But then again, if I was given my mother's middle name, I'd be Alma. Alma. 😐

For some reason my wife likes the idea of calling Willard Jnr (assuming it's a boy) Giles. To me it's a bit rural and I hate having it as a middle name (hence why it is never used). She also likes Felix.

Personally, I like Patrick, but that's not going to happen, or so I am told.

As above, I'd suggest those are good names to avoid unless you want your son to be one of 3 kids named Jack in his class. But why go for something deliberately unusual which nobody will be able to spell when some perfectly ordinary names like Peter aren't in the top 100?
